They're leaving that late.

I've not seen any mention of this lately but isn't the last qualifying event actually the 100m due to their rather stupid decision to let the bigger stars skip the first round so we now have a pre-qualifying round featuring the slow athletes only there to make up the numbers before the actual first round takes place?

Olympic beach volleyball pool draw completed in Klagenfurt

For 24 men and women beach volleyball teams, the road to the London 2012 Olympic Games got considerably closer Thursday with the drawing of lots to determine the six pool play groups held at the 2012 FIVB Beach Volleyball SWATCH World Tour A1Grand Slam presented by ERGO on Thursday in Klagenfurt, Austria.

The tandems were split equally into six pools, playing each team in their group, with the top two advancing to the single-elimination knockout phase along with the two best third-placed teams. The remaining four third-place teams will then compete in playoff matches to determine which pairs will fill the final two places in the first round.

With the pool designations determined, the actual day-by-day match schedule for pool play will be released by the FIVB and LOCOG by Monday from the FIVB headquarters in Lausanne, Switzerland.

That is still part of the Olympics, so its not a qualification event. Its just that certain athletes get a bye through the first round of heats. Not a terrible thing, tbh.
