India have qualified for London

Good to see them back after that disappointing time four years ago losing to Team GB. But they shouldn't expect any miracles upon its return in London.

Too bad the Canadians, both men's and women's, didn't even come close to qualifying.in their groups

Men's Football: AFC

South Korea has qualified for Olympics today as group winner, after beat Oman 3-0

This being their 7th consecutive qualification for the Olympics, I believe they now have the longest existing streak. They've also tied Italy for the longest streak in history, at 7 in a row.

The women's team had no chance. The men's team should be disappointed.

Canada should have about 250 athletes in London about 85 less then they had in 2008 (partly due to three team sports missing baseball softball and men's field hockey.

We are already at 220, water polo, both men's and women's and women's basketball all stand a good chance of qualifying. Plus about 6 in badminton, another 3 in archery, a larger cycling team then Beijing, larger swimming and athletics teams. Plus wrestling, fencing, mountain biking, bmx, tennis etc. We should finish just shy of 300. Around 325 if water polo and women's basketball qualify. My projections have a team of 307.

Oh really? Interesting. 300 would be good without two sports. The men's team has no chance in basketball. Badminton should have an athlete/pair in every event. Archery maybe two more to complete the team. Cycling Canada only has qualified one male in the road program. Wrestling 6 more MTB 3 Fencing right now we have no qualified teams so maximum will be 6 athletes then. The USA still has a chance in the remaining world cups to get top 4 allowing Canada a women's foil team. Tennis Raonic, Marino, Nestor.

Equestrians From 41 Nations Qualify for London 2012 Olympic Games

Riders from 41 nations have qualified to compete in the equestrian events at the London 2012 Olympic Games. Seven nations have been able to qualify in all three Olympic disciplines, including Australia, Canada, Great Britain, Germany, the Netherlands, Sweden, and the USA. The FEI Olympic Athletes Rankings in Jumping, Dressage, and Eventing were published March 2. They were the final stage of the qualification by nation process, which concluded yesterday March 1.

In Dressage, 11 nations will be fielding full teams of three riders. Thirteen countries will be represented only by individual riders, who qualified through the FEI Olympic Athletes Rankings. These nations are Antigua, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Finland, France, Italy, Japan, Morocco, Norway, Poland, Portugal, and Ukraine. This brings the total number of countries that will compete in the Olympic Dressage competitions to 24. WEG-gold medallist The Netherlands, host nation and silver medallist of WEG and gold medallist of the EC 2011 Great Britain, and bronze medallist of WEG and silver medallist of the EC 2011 Germany will each be entering four riders– a team of three and one individual qualified through the Rankings – which is the maximum number allowed in Dressage.

In Jumping 15 countries will be represented by teams. Azerbaijan, Ireland, Portugal, and Russia qualified through the FEI Olympic Athletes Rankings bring the total number of nations represented by individual riders to 11. Argentina, Colombia, Ireland, and Japan will be represented by two riders each whereas Azerbaijan, Bermuda, Egypt, Jordan, Portugal, Russia, and Syria will be entering one individual each..

Australian Olympic Swim Trials

Triple Olympic champion Stephanie Rice shrugged off a nagging shoulder injury to book her ticket to London by roaring to the Australian 400 metres individual medley title in Adelaide on Thursday.

After trailing Samantha Hamill at the turn of the first butterfly leg, the 23-year-old world record holder assumed control in the backstroke and powered home to post a world class time of four minutes 33.35 seconds at the South Australia Aquatic and Leisure Centre.

Rice, who also holds the 200m IM Olympic title, finished more than four seconds in front of runner-up Blair Evans and was brimful of confidence after sealing her sixth straight national title.

...

Evans's runner-up finish was enough to guarantee her the second 400IM medley spot on Australia's Olympic team.

Libby Trickett, one of a clutch of former Australian champions on the comeback road after a period of retirement, snuck into the final of the 100 butterfly to keep her hopes of defending her Olympic title alive.

The 27-year-old Trickett finished sixth fastest of the semi-finalists, more than a second adrift of pace-setter and former 200 butterfly world champion Jessicah Schipper, who posted a time of 58.26 seconds.

Trickett broke a minute for the first time since returning to the pool in the heat and improved on the time in the semi-final but faces an uphill battle to finish in the top two against Schipper and world silver medallist Alicia Coutts.

World record holder and Olympic silver medallist Brenton Rickard eased into the final of the 100 metres breaststroke.

Thorpe fails in 200m freestyle bid for London

(Reuters) - Five-times Olympic champion Ian Thorpe's bid to compete at the London Games suffered a major blow on Friday when he failed to make the final of the 200 metres freestyle at Australia's national swimming trials in Adelaide.

Thorpe, who will also compete in the 100 freestyle at the weekend, finished 12th fastest of the semi-finalists, outside the top eight that will contest Saturday's final at the South Australia Aquatic and Leisure Centre.

Defending Olympic champion Alain Bernard misses out on chance to defend his 100-meter title

DUNKIRK, France — Olympic champion Alain Bernard won’t get to defend his 100-meter freestyle title at the London Games after finishing fifth at the French swimming championships on Thursday.

Bernard needed to finish in the top two places to qualify, but he fell behind at the end as Yannick Agnel won in 48.02 seconds. Fabien Gilot finished second in 48.38 to also book his place. Bernard timed 48.92

The 28-year-old Bernard is still expected to compete for France in the 4x100 relay in London. He was on the team that won the silver medal four years ago at Beijing.

Looking at the teams that have qualified for the Olympic Basketball Tournament, we all know that the Men's side is nothing more than a glorified international tournament of NBA players, with all of the teams that have qualified (except Tunisia) having at least one NBA player. On the Women's Side, the United States will likely dominate again until they meet Australia in the gold medal game, who will keep it close until the United States pulls away in the last few minutes, to continue their undefeated streak for the 5th straight Olympic games.

It'll also be the 20th anniversary of the debut of NBA players in the Olympics.

Canadian Olympic Swimming Trials are on right now. Two things of interest, Mike Brown (who finished 4th in Beijing) failed to qualify for London in the 200m breaststroke. And in the 200m breastroke for women, Annamay Pierce, the world record holder failed to qualify when Tera van Bielen and Martha McCabe (the World bronze medalist) swam the 2nd and 3rd fastest times of the year.

Honduras has qualified for London after beat El Salvador 3-2 at extra time

Mexico and Canada will play for the other olympic spot tonight

Mexico took the other Olympic spot with a 3-1 victory. Horrible tournament for the USA. Too bad they couldn't play Hope Solo in the net. She would've made some of those saves.

I don't get the logic of having the trials so far away from the Games. The athletes have to peak twice, which I think is pretty difficult.
