memorabilia Posted July 15, 2010 Report Posted July 15, 2010 From inside the games : http://www.insidethegames.biz/2018-winter-olympics/10061-annecy-unveils-new-concept-for-2018-olympic-bid Annecy unveils new concept for 2018 Olympic bidThursday, 15 July 2010 16:36 July 15 - Annecy today revealed their new plan to host the 2018 Winter Olympics and Paralympics, which they claim is more compact and meets the requirements of the International Olympic Committee (IOC). The IOC had warned the French city last month that they risked being eliminated from the race, which also features Munich and Pyeongchang, if they did not come up with a new bid. Following three weeks of frantic meetings, Annecy has now revealed that it will concentrate its bid around Annecy and Chamonix in the Mont Blanc Valley. Edgar Grospiron, the chief executive of Annecy 2018, said: "We clearly heard the IOC’s message in the report published on June 22nd. "With the relevant elected officials, we’re therefore making intense efforts to adjust our concept and to optimise its compactness." All of the competitions will now take place in Annecy and Chamonix Mont-Blanc valley, two sites that are less than an hour away from one another and directly connected by the Games train and the motorway. It is proposed that Annecy will host the skating and curling events, as well as the biathlon, cross-country skiing, ski jumping and Nordic combined in the nearby La Clusaz and Le Grand Bornand venues. All of the Alpine skiing competitions and the ice hockey events will be held in at the foot of Mont Blanc in Chamonix, the host of the first ever Winter Olympics in 1924. The bobsleigh, luge and bob skeleton will be held La Plagne, which also staged the events when Albertville hosted the 1992 Olympics. As initially proposed, all the events for the Paralympic Games will be held in Annecy. Grospiron said: "The coming weeks will be devoted to studies and to technical review, notably as to the location of the Olympic Village. "One thing is certain, this new and simplified concept will provide everyone involved in the Olympic and Paralympic Games with a unique experience, at an exceptional competition venue that is filled with history. "It is in this spirit that we have all now completely mobilised whilst looking ahead to the major deadline of 11 January 2011, when we will provide our bid book to the IOC." The plans were backed by Christian Monteil, the chairman of the Annecy 2018 Supervisory Board and chairman of the Haute-Savoie General Council, and Jean-Luc Rigaut, the Mayor of Annecy and bid co-chairman. "More than ever, this bid is a project that aligns with the sporting, economic and environmental ambitions of the Savoie Mont Blanc territory," they said in a joint statement.
memorabilia Posted July 18, 2010 Author Report Posted July 18, 2010 Any details ? What got moved where ? Apparently: - Women Alpine Skiing moved from Morzine to Chamonix, - Accrobatic skiing & snowboarding moved from Flaine & Megeve to Chamonix - & Curling moved from Megeve to Annecy.
Tulsa Posted September 9, 2010 Report Posted September 9, 2010 Apparently: - Women Alpine Skiing moved from Morzine to Chamonix, - Accrobatic skiing & snowboarding moved from Flaine & Megeve to Chamonix - & Curling moved from Megeve to Annecy. I read in newspaper, Accrobatic skiing could move in Annecy Pole with Semnoz ski resort... It could be a great idea because it's a fabulous resort with one of the most beautifull view you can have on Alps and Annecy... But it's a possibility or just a crazy idea?

Semnoz is only 20 minutes from the Annecy center by driving....
demetrius Posted October 4, 2010 Report Posted October 4, 2010 New concept unveiled today map Megève, Flaine and Morzine/Avoriaz are out Semnoz would host snowboard and freestyle skiing
Citius Altius Fortius Posted October 4, 2010 Report Posted October 4, 2010 the new compact concept of Annecy is quite interesting - it has many similarities with Munich's bid (the difference is that Annecy would host skiing events, too and Grenoble ice hockey, which would mean that these two clusters are not split into a pure skiing cluster and a pure ice cluster like in Munichs bid)
Tulsa Posted October 4, 2010 Report Posted October 4, 2010 The new concept is better with less ski resorts. The mix between Ski and ice cluster is a good idea and to have freestyle ski and snowboard in the heart of Annecy is a very good thing. It's a very compact bid more than Munich now... I think we can win in july!
Citius Altius Fortius Posted October 4, 2010 Report Posted October 4, 2010 I think we can win in july! I thought Annecy would win anyway (since it is the best ski resort, the most beautiful ski resort, it has the best snow of the world, etc. etc.)

Annecy (and its close area) will have all the other ice events (ice skating, speed skating, short track & curling) plus the nordic events and all freestyle events !
Citius Altius Fortius Posted October 4, 2010 Report Posted October 4, 2010 I supposed you meant that CHAMONIX (and not Grenoble) oopps sorry - that was a "typo" - I meant of course CHAMONIX
memorabilia Posted October 4, 2010 Author Report Posted October 4, 2010 Annecy 2018 new concept... Olympic Venues Paralympic Venues
Citius Altius Fortius Posted October 4, 2010 Report Posted October 4, 2010 I'm just recognising that Geneve is mentioned on the map as international airport as well as Lyon - does France have to include Switzerland in talks about the organisation of Annecy 2018?
Tulsa Posted October 4, 2010 Report Posted October 4, 2010 It's a French-Switzerland airport. One part of the airport is on the french border. But if I remember, the city of Geneva had a deal with Annecy for 2018.
Citius Altius Fortius Posted October 6, 2010 Report Posted October 6, 2010 It's a French-Switzerland airport. One part of the airport is on the french border. ahh - like Basel-Mulhouse, which is on french ground, but has a "split" french/swiss terminal with a "swiss" road to Basel...
Rafa Posted October 6, 2010 Report Posted October 6, 2010 The Paris 2012 team would never have a produce a plan like the initial one in the first place.

baron-pierreIV Posted November 30, 2010 Report Posted November 30, 2010 It's TOO compact, Tulsa. It ahs to be a little more spread out.
4gamesandcounting Posted December 1, 2010 Report Posted December 1, 2010 So has Flaine been dropped as a venue?
Tulsa Posted December 1, 2010 Report Posted December 1, 2010 Flaine isn't in the new plan like Megève, Morzine-Avoriaz and Saint Gervais...

neige Posted June 10, 2011 Report Posted June 10, 2011 The snowy village atmosphere: back to Lillehammer 1994's spirit! combined with some innovations: the Commission believes that the Games concept presented by Annecy 2018 could be a workable model for Olympic Winter Games sustainability. In general the transport concept incorporates many forward-thinking measures in terms of environmentally friendly transport and more sustainable travel patterns minimizing automobile use and maximizing public transport. The lakeside would provide an impressive setting and some exciting possibilities for these ceremonies. In terms of cultural and city activities, Annecy 2018 proposes to use the city's historic, pedestrian centre as an "Urban Olympic Park" in which two live sites are planned. The "Nations Square" concept, to showcase the history and cultures of the countries belonging to the Olympic Movement to the public, is a positive initiative. Similar activities would take place in the centre of Chamonix.
