DamC
Brisbane enters the 2020 summer Olympics bidding process. BRISBANE (Queensland, Australia), June 29th. - The City of Brisbane is proud to announce her entry into the Australian bidding process to host the Games of the XXXII Olympiad in 2020. The bidding committee has named his CEO by mutual agreement during his first meeting this morning at Brisbane City Hall. DamC made his inaugural address during the press conference that followed the meeting : " We've started to work on this bid in last January and we are now ready to take up this challenge. We know that a lot of Australian cities are already in the race and that we have big competitors. We're getting ahead by being the first to unveil our visual identity." More about Brisbane 2020’s venue plan. BRISBANE (Queensland, Australia) July, 10th Brisbane 2020’s venue plan is now finalized. The venues will be situated in four areas around the city. The center point of the games will be in Eagle Farms, just next to the Gateway Bridge, it will made up of the Athletes Village, the Olympic Stadium and six others sports venues. This area will be considered as Brisbane Olympic Park. - Carless games. Our attention is focused on the use of both existing and new public transport infrastructure. Three clusters will be situated next to a CityTrain station and the fourth will be connected to the others with electric powered express buses. - A blend of existing, new, temporary and permanent venues. No useless expense will be made for the Brisbane Olympics. Existing venues like Brisbane Entertainment Centre, Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre, Suncorp Stadium, The Gabba or Sleeman Sports Complex will be used during the games. New permanent venues will also be built for the games, like a new flagship Olympic Stadium, an Olympic Arena and minor sports arena but, a strong legacy plan will allow the venues to have a post-games utility. - Four areas The four areas will be in Eagle Farms, Chandler, Boondall and Brisbane’s CBD. All the areas are situated within a 20 minutes travel by public transports from the Athletes Village and a 30 minutes travel from the IBC/MPC. - A Flagship Stadium The proposed Olympic Stadium will be in Eagle Farms and will have 70,000 seats during the games and 50,000 in legacy mode. It will be the most versatile stadium in Queensland even in Australia. Both rectangular (Football, Rugby and union) and oval (Cricket and Australian Football) sports will be able to be played in the stadium as well as athletics and concerts thanks to retractable seating. Like Stade de France or Wembley Stadium, the Olympic Stadium will not have permanent tenant but we already have negotiations with some professional sports teams based in Brisbane to make Olympic Stadium their new home. The stadium will contain a convention centre, restaurants, shops and a museum of Olympics to allow his year-round utility. If Brisbane hosts the Olympics, the city will bid to host the first southern hemisphere IAAF Diamond League southern hemisphere meeting and for an IRB Sevens World Series tournament in the stadium. The aim is to have 25 events every year in the stadium. Moreover, the Olympic Stadium will replace QSAC as Queensland’s main venue for athletics. Aronious
Can I ask why you have water polo at the Olympic Park and other aquatic events at Sleeman? I don't know much about the aquatic facilities at the existing centre.
DamC
Can I ask why you have water polo at the Olympic Park and other aquatic events at Sleeman? I don't know much about the aquatic facilities at the existing centre. Sleeman Centre has 1 50 metres-pool and a diving facility. For schedule reasons, we have to build a second swimming pool for Water Polo, I choosed to put it into Olympic park because it's closer from the Olympic Village and Media facilities and it will become a permanent pool for the local community next to the OSRC. Lord David
I guess my question was more along this lines. Given the Sleeman Centre has quite a small capacity, why not use it for water polo and have a new Aquatics Centre constructed at the Eagle Farm Park? I'd propose that a reconfiguration of the Sleeman Centre to just a lone 50m Olympic size pool with stands at the ends to bring it to 5,000+ could be used for say Water Polo prelims and synchronised swimming. The new aquatics centre could serve the main swimming and diving. The Sleeman Centre could be reverted back or have the end stands removed for office space etc.

Lachie
Ah guys, Its his bid!! He has decided to design it this way... It sort of defeats the purpose of having a bid competition of who can design the best bid when others are trying to tell them what to do with their bid
DamC
In facts, I already studied this option and I prefered upgrading the existing centre and building a temporary little one for Water Polo because the diving facility is already here. But, building a larger temporary pool at Eagle Farm and a little upgrade of Sleeman's without expanding the building would be a cheaper option. I'll try to fit 5,000 in the existing building to see if it's possible.

Scotguy
Whats with the collaborating and helpful ideas being given to rival bids, I agree with Lachie, it defeats the purpose of a bid competition. Plus providing too much information on the threads, means that i feel as if most of the information has been given already, will the bid books just repeat what has already been posted here. My approach has always been to post details here that wont be in the bid book such as logos, themes, mascots, official songs, speeches, bid videos, and keep the technical details of the bid for the Bid Books, which make them more interesting to read. Lord David
It's not collaborations, it's mere suggestions, you choose to take it on board if you want.

Jim856796
A few issues witrh the suggested venue plan for a Brisbane Olympics: * Sports and capacities of Olympic Park Pool and Brisbane Aquatics Centre can be swapped. * Tingalpa Reservoir hosts sprint canoeing, not slalom (Error). * Olympic Arena has trampoline events, while the Convention/Exhibition Centre hosts rhythmic gymnastics. * Sailing venue to be determined (not listed in plans).
