Islam, Christianity and Judaism are all complete and utter garbage. I despise all three.

Indeed. Religion, sh#t it.

But I do think, if Istanbul ups its game (which is a big if), giving the Olympics to a secular Muslim country would be a huge positive.

That's always been my stance. That when the IOC is ready to take the Muslim jump, it would be with Istanbul. The Turks, however, have to come up with a sellable plan that the IOC would buy, since thusfar, the IOC hasn't been interested in the least in the previous, old Istanbul plans.

I think it doesn't matter if you're gay or not. Kissing in public in the UAE is not considered correct, but I don't what would happened if it was 2 boys or 2 girls kissing each other instead of a boy and a girl

well that's the trouble, why?

Politics and religion aside, I just don't see how a country that only sent 8 athletes to the last Olympics, has only ever won a single medal, only joined the Olympic movement in 1984, and has never competed in the Olympic Winter Games can realistically expect to host the Olympics, especially on its first bid. A sporting legacy and culture is required and the IOC will only invest a high level of trust in nations that can deliver on more than just butt loads of money.

By comparison, Turkey has a much richer Olympic legacy.

It's just part of a more conservative Muslim mindset--to get other societies to accept a twisted way of life. And if you got money, then the better to buy other people's acceptance and endorsement.

Thank God (the Christian God...not that fake prophet...) the IOC is made up of as many as 50 different nationalities.

Because that's how they do it in their society. You shouldn't go in and try to challenge the boundaries.

If you knew a snake was going to bite you...and you still messed with it, then you are the stupid one; not the snake.

What are you trying to prove by forcing issues which are acceptable elsewhere, into the faces of the host?

Just don't go. Is that so hard to figure out??

well about the plans i can say till now the turkish olympic committee is responsible for preparing the candidature. but its changed 5 years ago and the municipality and the government now responsible for that and working with TOC. i guess the government will do their best for more votes. not like Izmirs EXPO candidature

i will ask the sports minister and the municipality about what they are planning and will share it with u.;)

What kind of sports facilities does Dubai Have?

A Sports City which features a soccer stadium, a cricket stadium, an indoor arena, and a hockey stadium. Plus, an indoor arena is being built that looks like an aquatics centre. More brand-new facilities need to be built should Dubai host a Summer Olympics. Couldn't this guy came up with a proper venue plan to accompany his proposal?

Dubai decides not to bid for 2020 Olympics

(07-29) 03:20 PDT DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) --

Hit hard by the global economic crisis, the Gulf city of Dubai decided Friday not to bid for the 2020 Olympics and will focus instead on a possible candidacy for the 2024 Games.

A feasibility study found 70 percent of the infrastructure demands were already in place but that "a bid would be better timed for 2024," the National Olympic Committee of the United Arab Emirates said.

Dubai has been one of the leaders among Gulf cities which have used sports to raise its profile and attract tourists. It first hinted in 2009 that it might bid for the 2020 Games but the economic crisis hit the city hard and forced it to roll back its ambitions.

There also have been concerns about the heat, which routinely exceeds 104 degrees and likely would impact many of the outdoor events including the marathon, triathlon and walk event.

Another Gulf city — Doha, Qatar — is still weighing a possible 2020 bid.

Dubai's hereditary ruler, Sheik Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, insisted that Dubai would one day bid for the Olympics.

"Hosting the Olympic Games in the Middle East would be a dream come true for the entire region, and we fully intend to place a bid once I am totally satisfied that we are prepared to host the greatest sporting event in history in a way that would add value to the Olympic Movement itself, as well as the youth of the Arab world," he said in a statement.

"Whilst I am satisfied that infrastructure and Dubai's experience in hosting top class sports events would see us well placed to win a bid, I do believe that much more has to be done in order to leave the lasting human legacy that celebrates the Olympic values."

Madrid, Rome and Tokyo have formally announced bids for 2020. Istanbul is also expected to enter the race.
