Lachie Posted June 17, 2010 Report Posted June 17, 2010 Can we have a new competition to start or is this done only at certain times? Any ideas or preferences?
Aronious Posted June 17, 2010 Report Posted June 17, 2010 My preference is always for Summer Games. Perhaps a WC shortly after 2010 finishes???
Lachie Posted June 17, 2010 Author Report Posted June 17, 2010 I would prefer a Summer Games too. But I never thought of a WC bid. That sounds good, maybe we could do both but im not sure how many people on this site have the time/skills to be bothered to try and put something together. One is probably enough My bias is showing but maybe an Australian Olympic Bid - Brisbane V Melbourne V Perth V Hobart V Adelaide V Gold Coast.....

Funny you should say that, recent comments by Mike Rann suggest to me Adelaide might be going down the path of IAAF World Championships bid soon...which would make an Adelaide fantasy book a little more interesting.
Lord David Posted June 18, 2010 Report Posted June 18, 2010 Summer Games. Perhaps a chance to actually do Hobart 2020. I've been bugged by one of the radio guys that thought of the Hobart bid to actually do one!
Lachie Posted June 18, 2010 Author Report Posted June 18, 2010 Yeah I would prefer a summer bid book too. It just has more of an opportunity to be more wide ranging on some sport venues. So would the idea of an Australian bid book competition go down well? I wouldn't mind doing Melbourne or Perth... Yes/No???
Lord David Posted June 18, 2010 Report Posted June 18, 2010 I just want to show them Hobart guys that a proper venue plan can be made that's vastly better than what they've proposed.
DamC Posted June 24, 2010 Report Posted June 24, 2010 If a bid book competition, whatever sort of bid book it is, is organised, I want to take part. I already have ideas about Lyon,France Melbourne,Australia and Boston,USA. So, australian domestic competition or an international one ?
Sir Rols Posted June 24, 2010 Report Posted June 24, 2010 Don't know if I really could put too much time into it, but I have pondered lately the notion of a Moore Park-oriented Sydney bid. The idea of a domestic bid comp is a bit different, could be a good twist. Here's a suggestion - why not two (or more) concurrent domestic comps - say, Australia and USA (Brazil, Canada, Germany, France?), with voting for winners in each (the semifinals) who then square off against each other in a Final?
Lachie Posted June 25, 2010 Author Report Posted June 25, 2010 It is a good idea but I dont think this forum has the numbers and time commitment of people to get enough entries (and quality ones of that). Looking back at past competitions they have struggled to get anymore than 3 on numerous occasions. I propose that we should do a rotating continent/country summer bid competition, starting with Australia of course Then go through Asia, Africa, North America, Europe (or specific regions due to numbers) etc etc Yes/No? If there are no objections then I will take it as a yes and will start a new thread in a couple of days posting the criteria that Lord David and or Mo Rush posted in ones last year... SUMMER BID BOOK COMPETITION 2020 - AUSTRALIA Candidate Cities: Please post your preference and I will update list (hopefully to get 5 books would be great) Hobart Perth Melbourne (Lachie) Brisbane Gold Coast Canberra Sydney (would have to be original) Adelaide I'll start by nominating myself for the Melbourne Bid Book.
Citius Altius Fortius Posted June 25, 2010 Report Posted June 25, 2010 Canberra mhh - maybe I just need to change a little bit of my Winter Olympics bid for Canberra...
DamC Posted June 25, 2010 Report Posted June 25, 2010 Melbourne Oh no ! It was the only city I had an idea of a venue plan ... (if I propose a bid for this aussie competition, could I propose one for a later European comp. ?)
Lord David Posted June 25, 2010 Report Posted June 25, 2010 I take dibs on Hobart, assuming of course I bother to come up with anything.
Lachie Posted June 26, 2010 Author Report Posted June 26, 2010 (if I propose a bid for this aussie competition, could I propose one for a later European comp. ?) Yes, for sure. The more entries the better. Melbourne (Lachie) Hobart (Lord David) Canberra (Citius Altius Fortius?) Perth Brisbane Gold Coast Adelaide Lets fill these spots up people!!!
Lachie Posted June 26, 2010 Author Report Posted June 26, 2010 Melbourne (Lachie) Hobart (Lord David) Canberra (Citius Altius Fortius?) Perth Brisbane (DamC) Gold Coast Adelaide 3 more spots people

That sounds like a good idea. Countries like Germany, Australia and the US seem to have attracted a lot of bids in the past. I'd be up for a Perth bid.
Lachie Posted June 27, 2010 Author Report Posted June 27, 2010 Melbourne Lachie Hobart Lord David Canberra Citius Altius Fortius Brisbane DamC Perth Aronious(Julia Gillard) Gold Coast Adelaide TWO MORE! Gold Coast and Adelaide. Almost there...
Lord David Posted June 27, 2010 Report Posted June 27, 2010 Where's Darwin? Shouldn't Darwin be permitted to bid?
Aronious Posted June 29, 2010 Report Posted June 29, 2010 Can we make this more formal? Is there any interest to do bids from other countries? USA, Canada? South Africa? Germany?
