OK, taking this thread too seriously possibly but I predicted the whole tournament at http://www.worldcupchart.com/

My results are based on that

Who do you think is going to win?

Brazil

Who do you think is the other finalist?

Spain

Who do you think is going to be the surprise team of the tournament?

South Korea (knock out France in the second round and give England a scare in the Quarters)

Who is gonna win the golden ball?

Kaka (Maradona never gets the best out of Messi)

Who is gonna win the golden shoe?

Wayne Rooney

How far do you think your team is gonna go?

Semi-final, beaten by Champions Brazil. England go on to beat Germany in the 3rd/4th place play-off

I put my bet on England. Statistics are with them.

Argentina and Spain my second choices.

About statistics, never an European team won a World Cup outside Europe...

And in 100+ years of FIFA only once a European National team won a FIFA official tournament outside Europe (France, Confederations Cup 2001 in South Korea)...

Brazil wins again, since it's the only team that won in every single continent... (Statistics)

Maradona never gets the best out of Messi

100% agreed!

If you want good money, bet on New Zealand! :P

For most goals conceded? I think it'll be between them and Kim Jong-il's barmy army.

New Zealand really were poor in the games I watched during last year's Confed Cup. I think they'll be shown to be way out of their depth. But, I hope I'm wrong; I'd love it if they beat Italy! :P

I can't see Argentina reaching Quarterfinals... sure, they have the best player of the moment but the rest of Maradona's choice are crap...

For me, Brazil will be the champion winning the final against England/Germany/Spain... and I hope Chile will be the surprise ;) Denmark and Ivory Coast are the other candidates for me

The winner is usually one of the top teams that people think is in a troph. From what I've read about 1994 it was expected that a unified Germany would defend West Germany's title, 1998 was Brazil, 2002 was Italy and 2006 was Brazil. But the winners have been Brazil-France-Brazil-Italy. So a team that is in a funk right now that people aren't expecting much of - Argentina.

Though their group is tricky.

With Maradona formation, and watched the South American Qualifiers (when Argentina suffered a lot to be 4th, indeed losing to Bolivia 0 - 6 with Messi playing), I can say Argentina can even fail to make the Round of 16...

In the theory it's a great team, but together, it's simply a mess-i (LOL) biggrin.gif

I'm with Danny.

Italy qualified comfortably for the 2006 world cup, unlike Argentina this time around. They mightn't have been favourites but nor were they in the state Argentina are in.

Germany had probably the easiest path to a world cup final ever in 2002 (R16:Paraguay -> QF:USA -> SF:Korea). They are not a good example, and I think Argentina would be lucky to get as easy a set of fixtures as that.

I think it's true to say the favourite often doesn't win, but I think it's just as true to say teams playing like Argentina currently are don't either.

You can't compare the current Argentina with the Germany of 2002 and Italy of 2006...

Argentina doesn't even have a team; Maradona has called more than a hundred of different players in the last games... he even called Martín Palermo and Ariel Ortega... WTF! Are we in 1998?

Yeah I know about this but afterall South Africa is a former British colony and so, somehow, it's like a second home for the English. :P

If all the favorites won their groups:

France-England-Netherlands-Brazil only face Argentina-Germany-Italy-Spain in the final match.

so a logical thinking is:

Who do you think is going to win?

Brazil

Who do you think is the other finalist?

Germany

but World Cup is not logical :P

But it is still in other continent... LOL

USA can be a second home for the English too and you didn't even qualified for that World Cup... tongue.gif

Brazil in 2002 anyone?

Brazil is always Brazil... (Less than quarterfinals is a tragedy and shame for the Brazilian average people)

The last coach that didn't make quarterfinals never worked again in Brazil... LOL

I'm glad there is no argentine here in GamesBids or this "guy" would probably annoys us with his argentine-superiority-skill talkings...

Can't say I know too much about the form, or individual players. Most comments in the press here have Brazil or Spain as the favourites - which was the exact prediction in 2006 too!

So most of my predictions are based totally on wishful thinking and personal bias.

Who do you think is going to win?

England (I said the same for 2006)

Who do you think is the other finalist?

Argentina

Who do you think is going to be the surprise team of the tournament?

One of the African sides will surely make a personal best. Not win the tournament, but probably make the semis. Let's say Cote D'Ivoire.

How far do you think your team is gonna go?

Australia ... I'm less sanguine about our chances than in 2006. I pray we make the group of 16 then wallop England (yeah, I know, that would defeat my tournament winner prediction) and make the quarters. I'm steeled for bowing out early in a tight group, however.

Germany ... Semis. But hopefully even further. It'd be nice if the Socceroos could draw with them in the first match in Durban.

U have Italy playing there 2x, and they lose both Xs too?

USA will win all the way. If not in RSA, then in Zurich!!

I have a lot of Argentinean friends and most of them are more pessimistic than us. Even a lot of them though Argentina shouldn't have qualified to the WC.
