The Maracana Cluster

Recommended Posts

You're right. Only several celebrities who are diehard Olympic fans can afford 500+ room headquarters hotels for themselves to stay at during the Olympics. I may not be a celebrity, but several years ago, I joined this forum because I was an Olympic fan.

And the Rio Olympic project updates don't really accelerate until after the London Games have been held. How is a city like Rio going to prepare itself for the Olympics in four years, much less seven? Only two years have passed, and Rio's entering its third year of preparation.

VERY well, it seems:

Rio making strong progress for 2016 Olympics - IOC

RIO DE JANEIRO, June 9 (Reuters) - Rio de Janeiro has made "remarkable progress" in its preparations to host the 2016 Olympic Games, the International Olympic Committee said on Thursday after a three-day inspection of the Brazilian city.

The IOC praised the pace of infrastructure work and a government effort to speed up plans to expand the country's overcrowded airports in time for the FIFA World Cup, which will kick off in Brazil two years before the Olympics.

"Over a year ago, at the end of our first visit, I said that time was passing by and we had no time to waste," said Nawal El Moutawakel, the head of the IOC's Coordination Commission and a Moroccan gold medalist in the 400-meter hurdles in 1984.

"Today I am happy to say that Rio 2016 and its partners have taken those words seriously and made remarkable progress," she said.

El Moutawakel, in a statement released by Brazil's government, also highlighted the signing of an agreement for construction of the Olympic Village for athletes as a key sign of progress.

For the last time, the idea of holding Olympic ceremonies outside the Olympic Stadium is silly, but a petition to put the ceremonies out of Maracana and into the Joao Havelange is not. Even if I stopped the campaigns and petitions, you're still going to harass me. I know it. The definition of harassment is:

"Harassment covers a wide range of offensive behaviour. It is commonly understood as behaviour intended to disturb or upset, and it is characteristically repetitive."

hate to get off-topic, but Why is it that some word I don't like, you got to repeatedly sat it and force me to act and be (mostly be) angry? This forum doesn't have a strict set of rules and regulations, especially those against harassment and bullying. There is actually a story where a teenage girl was being bullied and harassed drove her to suicide, and you don't want to drive me to such a fate, especially after repeated un-ignorable harassment and bullying, do you, sir?

For the umpteenth time ... IN YOUR OPINION!

And whatever petitions you try to organise is not going to make any difference to the plan that is going ahead. Your obsession with it goes way into the realms of lunacy.

Well, Jim, IOC is PRETTY HAPPY with the progress of Rio in building and planning the games of 2016.

Indeed, they are VERY HAPPY (Gilbert Felli) with all venues already chosen, like Maracana Stadium for the Opening Ceremony.

Happy or not with Maracana?

Danny, I'm sorry, I just want you to stop the "seem"-related harassment also before I go crazy. Can't you write a song about a different subject NOT containing the words that so offends me? If you can't, then don't write any songs at all. You done forgot who we all are: Olympic fans. I just wanted to visit Rio for the 2016 Games, not be driven to some sad fate several years before it. Danny, when you drive folks to harassment, you drive them towards some sad fate, and I don't want to say it, you're gonna end up getting punished for the harassment. So a note to you two: From now on, please, a thousand times please, don't write me any songs, don't show me any YouTube videos, don't even harass me with that word. Even if you stopped the harassment, I will keep what you call "campaigning" to a minimum. Face it, No person ever wants to be harassed in their lifetimes. Not even you, not even myself.

Ok, let's talk seriosly.

I'm not intended to harass you. But, you should rethink your behaviour, your way of acting in the forums, well, if you want to.

You're so free to make petitions and be imperative in your comments. When you do this you're not harassing us, but, face the fact: this kind of behaviour is "weird" and most of people (if not all) thinks this FUNNY. Your "statements" lead to ironic and sarcastic answers, and often to jokes.

Think about it: you are asking us to ban a so-used expression of English language!!! And also threaten us of be banned from the forums because of the use of "it seems" --- this sound so surreal that makes laugh a lot.

Maybe, if we call you bad words or attack your honour, we could really talk about cyberbullying or harassment. This is really not the case. Nobody can be offended because of the use of "it seems", Jim. C'mon!

Again you're free to behave like you want, as we are free to answer you based in our opinions too.

My tip: be more nice or accept the feedbacks or join the jokes ("if you can't win them, join them")

Otherwise, It seems (sorry, this was not intentional) you don't have any sense of humour. I know, it's hard to get into the jokes when you are not part of any "club of old friends" (here, in other forums, or in any place), but by acting like victim or threaten other people will not help you and what people think about you, at all.

I really don't want make you sad about Rio before your trip to our city, but, I hope you can be more nice with your comments, specially, because cariocas are worldwidely known for being so passionate about the city, as we can see you are about Olympic Games.

And about the song I made for you. I'll post it, because nothing will change, if you don't change too.

BTW, the lyrics got great!!!

Saudações do Brasil,

Danny

Guys take it easy with Jim, he is a Olympic fan and that is what matters, even if we dont agree with his opinions. :)

I already said it here: I do prefer ceremonies at the same stadium of the Athletics, but I don't see a sin or a huge problem if Maracana host the ceremonies.

The problem here is: IOC and most part of Brazilians are pretty happy with the ceremonies in our "special stadium", 99% of the world really don't care about it and will be praised to see the big party at any place...

This is enough to me to understand that the majority wins and the ceremonies will be in "that special stadium for Brazilians".

But Jim wants to make the world spin west-east just because of his will... Not a nice reason of argument to start a discussion, right?

Hate to double-post, but Danny, I will ask you to please not post that song, because I don't want to see it.

You can never say no to a samba! C'mon, Jim, let's laugh a little and have good times...

Warm your heart and your humour!

Som na caixa, DJ!!!

Sorry, I don’t buy this “Rainman” schtick Jim likes to keep pulling whenever he starts drawing rebukes on whatever forum he’s trolling one of his ludicrous “campaigns” at the time. I’ve seen his form on other sites (try googling his net handle and you’ll see how many “Please mod, can you finally once and for all ban Jim856796” threads and campaigns he’s sparked on other forums). I wondered at times if he really WAS, in fact, as mentally challenged or autistic as he tries to come across as, and even felt a bit sorry for him. But his record is too consistent and EVERY issue he chooses to game over is so patently absurd and targeted to annoy and infuriate the respective audiences, that it’s very clear he’s a notorious serial and deliberate troll.

Jim – I don’t have a problem with dissenting or opposing views or opinions. I welcome them, if you can debate your view intelligently and with evidence and examples. I think most members here are the same. But you don’t like to engage beyond trying to distract the issue by having vapours over the use of things like common english words when the heat comes on. Yes, it’s your right to express opinions, no matter how lame and bizarre you choose them to be, but it’s my right then to refute, argue against and ridicule when I feel you’re being a provocative and pointless d!ck. If you post a viewpoint on a public forum, you are doing so on the understanding you will get comment and feedback on it,. But then again, of course you know all this anyway. You just want to be noticed, whether your reputation is ridiculous or not. You wanna continue your “campaigns” – fine. But if you do so, I will continue my right to refute, rebuke and ridicule against what I see as puerile and provocative idiocy. Or ignore you if I get bored. If you don’t like that, then you can get sad and eat some cake. Or as Mo says, go away.

Baron, I thought I said "Stop with the YouTube videos", that's part of the harassment, which is all over with. Now let's please talk about something else and get back on topic, like: the Improvement of the train station above the Maracana Stadium. and How the Maracanazinho arena doesn't need any major improvement before the 2016 Olympics?
