jawnbc
And Vancouver had everything virtually in place, other than the sea-to-sky highway expansion. Not really. Whistler Olympic Park was built from scratch; so were the Oval and Vancouver Olympic Park curling venue. The Whistler Sliding Centre was brand new too. Cypress Mountain was majorly redesigned (20% new terrain, new lodge) too. And both villages were brand new. But yeah, Whistler Creekside, BC Place, Rogers Arena, and Pacific Coliseum were all existing venues used with some upgrading. The highway upgrade was, paradoxically, on the books for a later date and moved up for the Games. The Canada Line to/from the airport was a lower priority project until the bid process began; in fact, the Evergreen Line serving Vancouver's Eastern suburbs was a higher priority and got bumped by the Canada Line because of the Games.
