Thanks to cormiermac's reply at the premium forum, I put forward the suggestion on either a 2020 Summer Olympics or 2022 Winter Olympics bid competition.

Now who wants to do another one of these?

Please forgive me, this is my first poll here!

A simple bid book would be merely 10 pages long, following what thatsnotmypuppy would usually have.

An IOC questions bid book would be following all IOC questions and including all the appropriate maps and charts. And NO, having both English and French WILL NOT give you extra points! ;)

I put forward both options as for those who are willing to do the hard work.

So if it's all simple bids, then there can't be any complaints if another bid is deemed more superior because someone did a more thorough bid book ;).

Likewise, one can't complain if everyone is following the IOC rules (so basically failure to complete all questions (they don't have to be thorough!) may result in disqualification).

A mix of both means you can't complain outright, it's an option if we want to see simple and extensive bid books. Likewise it will be ultimately judged by content only, not by how extensive it is, it can either be simple, IOC question based, or a little thorough. It's up to you.

And finally, if you want to do both a Summer and Winter at the same time feel free to vote for it, we can have separate ballots and you could end up winning both editions of the Olympics! (you may or may not be disqualified for not submitting both by the deadline, depending on how many submissions we get in the end!) :P

Well that's all from me, what do you guys think? :)

I'd like to join, but lately I'm very busy with free-lancers jobs... Anyway, a 2020 Summer Games bid book seems great to me.

I had to postpone a competition due to people being busy and TNMP's week long competition has ran into months. The best comps seem to be the Olympic bids. 2010 (despite the Vancouver Games excitement) has not been a good year so far for the Gamesbids competitions, could this be the beginning of the end!!!!!

It's hard to predict when they'll work and when not. I was ken for the siadium comp, but don't really have the expertise to do it well.

The Winter Games comps often sem more successful than the summer ones, but I'd still like to see a good Summer bid one get up.

The City of Atlanta would like to express its interest in a possible 2020 bid. The city eagerly awaits any announcements.

I would be very interested in making a US bid for 2020 (either my hometown of Pittsburgh if we had to answer all IOC questions, or another city for a smaller bid).

Well if we do go ahead, I'd ideally like both options. You know me, I'm willing to do the hard work. :)

Wait a minute, does that make this poll pointless? :P

I am still quite new here and I don't know these competitions.

How would such a IOC book look like and which question would I have to answer? Are there any good bid book examples from earlier competitions? I would be interested. :)

If I have enough time (which is not sure unfortunately) I will join this competition ... maybe. We will see. Maybe summer olympics in Vienna. :)

Have a look at one of the past comps, like this:

Some of the books might still be up too (including a Vienna one!).

There's also a post in the thread about required venues, and capacities and so forth.

Good luck!

Fantasy 2020 Olympic GB Competition:

Applicant City : Istanbul

Candidate City : Istanbul

Main Slogan : Bicontinental Games

Sub Slogan : Reaching High

Philosophical Slogan : Come - Even Who you are - Come (citate: Mevlana)

This philosophical slogan embodies en emphesize

the spiritual feeling and disipline of sport

in the innerside of the Olympist.

And dignifies the pure and clean side of Sports in General

Main Theme of the Logo

1- A dwerling Dervish

2- Geographical map lines of the city of Istanbul

3- Embodies the cultural aspect of culture being one with the city (respectively and also the 3 religions)

4- Dwerling in spiritual phases to Reach the high in pureness and disipline of the body

5- Cultural Clothing also reflects the 2 bridges overspanning the bosphorus

6- The Logo establishes the east and west concept as BI-CONTINENTAL, therefore " BICONTINENTAL GAMES "

Looking forward to set dates for this Comp !! ;)

My proposal (everybody set her/his own dates (2 weeks or 1 month with dates)

So we can take the middel of all the contestants.

Perhaps it's a good time to discuss about my logo and it's themes.

Havana2020.jpg

- Here we have the most iconic image of Cuba as a whole, Che Guevara, revolutionary leader, whose face mark is on top of a stylized representation of the island of Cuba.

- Che Guevara has been chosen not only for the fact that his image is most associated with Cuba, but also because he was an avid amateur sports person himself, playing a wide variety of sports from Rugby, to Baseball.

- The stylized depiction of Cuba bears the phrase "Viva los Olimpicos siempre", which in Spanish means "Long live the Olympics". A rebellion, if you will, against the overtly commercialized games, which the Olympics have become.

- Beneath Cuba is the words "La Habana" and "2020", in a stylized handwritten font, as well as the use of a standard font for "CIUDAD ASPIRANTE".

- Should Havana be selected as a candidate city, the Olympic Rings (In Communist red) will appear underneath "CIUDAD CANDIDATA".

Good lord, this is just great!!! I am very impressed. It's hard work though, I think I have too little time. And the Vienna bid is already done. And I really like it. I am very surprised about Hirtenberg as co-host. I have never heard about this village yet. Why did you choose Hirtenberg, a 2,500 inhabitants village? :)

I also found a few mistakes, but only details... :) A little bit unrealistic is the point public opinion. I think that the majority of the people isn't for the games, maybe not against but neither for it. That wouldn't be typical Viennese. ;) The Prater cluster would also be a big problem because the Prater is holy in Vienna. For the UEFA Euro 2008 they had to fell maybe 10 trees due to safety reasons and that was nearly impossible...^^ But I can't imagine olympics in Vienna without a Prater cluster, so Olympics in Vienna would be very, very complicated, nearly impossilbe...

The concept of Atlanta's logo

Atlanta%20logo.jpg

The Olympic flame is represented here forming at the bottom the shape of a heart, representing harmony and peace

The top shape of the flame is in a sweeping motion, representing the movement of the centenial Olympic emblem

The curved lines represent the torch, cauldron and movement of the athletes.

The colours of red and orange symblise the colour of the Olympic flame and of the deep south of Georgia

The logo is simple but conveys the Olympic message of people coming together in Atlanta to celebrate in a warm friendly setting
