The ladies who ruled the ceremonies...

Recommended Posts

Having seen many ceremonies (both live and on tv) I thought that two special ladies really added a huge degree of class to the Vancouver proceedings.

kd lang absolutely scored a ten at the opening. Classy, immaculately attired and in magnificent voice - 'Hallelujah' fitted the moment and the mood perfectly. Outstanding - and beside the virtual whales and the flame it was my favourite part of the show.

Alanis (and yes - her fine, fine rack!!) was an inspired choice. While 'Wunderkind' may have been better suited to the opening, it was fantastically staged, the snow falling lightly around her and the powerful performance won me over. When I heard Alanis was playing the CC I was a bit stumped. I love the gal but don't think she had a real ceremony kind of song. 'So Pure'? 'Everything'? 'Hand In My Pocket'? Maybe she'd re-write 'Thank U' so the lyrics were Thank u Canada instead of the quasi-Indian rubbish she spouts in the original. It was such a simple, pretty staging - 'Wunderkind' has been redefined from a forgotten 'Narnia' movie theme to a winter anthem. Easily the highpoint for me.

Thoughts?

And in case you missed it (I posted it around page 56 of the closing ceremony chat thread) -

Wunderkind - Alanis
