truenorth Posted March 1, 2010 Report Posted March 1, 2010 This Canadian hates that annoying song in the closing ceremonies in Vancouver (oh oh oh oh Vancouver). For a country that produced Neil Young, Bryan Adams, Alanis Morrisette, Celine Dion and Shania Twain, this is all they can come up with musically? I had to mute the TV for fear I might hear the stupid song in my sleep. Shame on you, Canada!
Citius Altius Fortius Posted March 1, 2010 Report Posted March 1, 2010 welcome to our boards, truenorth well - don't be too hard with that song - I think it wasn't good, but it was totally wipe out of my memory when the fantastic kitsch beaver/hockey/canoe/mountie/buble segment came
walei Posted March 1, 2010 Report Posted March 1, 2010 LOL and the whole time I thought they were singing... oh oh oh oh back to work...
scielle Posted March 1, 2010 Report Posted March 1, 2010 Couldn't agree more. With all the amazing musical talent that's come out of this country, that's the best they could come up with. Embarrassing. That concert was a huge let-down.
blueview Posted March 1, 2010 Report Posted March 1, 2010 was that the song at the beginning? with the youth and their snowboards?
mr.x Posted March 1, 2010 Report Posted March 1, 2010 Musically and artistically, I think the intention of the first song for the countdown was for something really simple so that it would provide contrast with the rest of the Ceremony. They didn't want to start the concert theme just yet.
baron-pierreIV Posted March 1, 2010 Report Posted March 1, 2010 Yeah...what was the repeating lyric? In my ear and mind, I thought it was "Vancouver rocks..." Was that it? And also, Buble...I couldn't understand one segment of his song. Also, why didn't they use Scott Joplin's "The Maple Leaf Rag"??

"The Maple Leaf Forever" is the Canadian equivalent of Waltzing Matilda...it's not as cherished as Australia's Waltzing Matilda, but before O Canada was officially named as our anthem the Maple Leaf Forever and God Save The Queen were Canada's anthems.
LuigiVercotti Posted March 1, 2010 Report Posted March 1, 2010 Well at least that mindless 'Vancouver' song has lyrics that most can remember (unlike the Olympic 'anthem'). I guess we should all be grateful that there was nary a note sung by Celine Dion or Anne Murray at either ceremony...
4seasonscentre Posted March 1, 2010 Report Posted March 1, 2010 They probably wanted to come up with a bilingual song at the last minute. Whoa whoa Vancouver, that's bilingual! The snowboarders were forming number patterns but it was too hard to read- didn't work out. They also formed a maple leaf with their snowboards but CTV didn't turn to the right shot at the right time.
SkiFreak Posted March 2, 2010 Report Posted March 2, 2010 What song are we talking about? My eyes were too focused on the big boobed mounties...
LuigiVercotti Posted March 2, 2010 Report Posted March 2, 2010 What song are we talking about? My eyes were too focused on the big boobed mounties... I just kept thinking 'I cut down trees, I eat my lunch, I go to the lavatory, on Wednesday I go shopping and have buttered scones for tea' as soon as singing mounties appeared.
truenorth Posted March 4, 2010 Author Report Posted March 4, 2010 The song at the beginning, yes with the kids with snowboards.
