Closing Ceremony thoughts?

Recommended Posts

If it weren't for the gold medal hockey win on Sunday, there would have been many, many angry Canadians with the closing ceremony. It was embarrassing.

For most Canadians, the closing ceremony of the Vancouver Olympics weren't the actual Closing Ceremony but rather the gold medal hockey win followed by the partying in the streets of Vancouver and across the country.

In hindsight, the 2010 Ceremonies could have used a lot more cash. Boost the $48.5-million budget to $70-million for a proper job. Of the $48.5-million, only $20-million was public money. With the limitations of BC Place and dare I say the cultural limitations of Canada, the Ceremonies should have had more money to work with.

What could they have done with a bigger budget? Moving floats that go from one end of the stadium to the other? Showing homages of Canadian culture? The Provinces and Territories? a Shatner float half Star Trek USS Enterprise, TJ Hooker Police car?

I never did get around to posting any thoughts on the CC since it happened.

I liked them. A+

Buble's number rulez!

But jeez, I'd forgotten about Shatner. I almost fell out of my chair laughing when he came on. They should've gave him and extended spot, and let him sing a verse of "Maple ...... Leaf ...... FOREVER!!!!!

I would have gotten Shatner to have "sing" Sinatra's My Way (Which was translated err written into English by a Canadian ya know!), this time with revised lyrics.

"Our Way"

And, now, the, end, is, near.

And, so, we, face, the final, curtain.

My, friends, I'll, say, it, clear.

I'll, state, my, case, of, which, I'm, certain.

We've, lived, a, games, that's, full.

We've, traveled, each, and, every, highway.

And, more, much, more, than, this.

We, did, it, our, way.

Regrets, We've had a few (Lack of snow?).

But, then, again, too, few, to, mention.

We, did, what, We, had, to, do.

And, saw, it, through, without, exemption.

We, planned, each, charted, course.

Each, careful, step, along, the, byway.

And, more, much, more, than, this.

We, did, it, our, way.

Yes, there, were, times, I'm, sure, you, knew.

When, we, bit, off, more, than, we, could, chew.

But, through, it, all, when, there, was, doubt.

We ate, it, up, and, spit, it, out, we faced, it, all.

And, we, stood, tall, and, did, it, our, way.

We've, loved, We've, laughed, and, cried.

We've, had, our, fill, our, share, of, losing.

And, now, as, tears, subside.

We, find, it, all, so, amusing.

To, think, we, did, all, that.

And, may, we, say, not, in, a, shy, way.

Oh, no, oh, no, not, us.

We, did, it, our, way.

For, what, is, a, country, what, have, we, got.

If, not, ourselves, then, we, have, not.

To, say, the, things, we, truly, feel.

And, not, the, words, of, those, who, kneel.

The, record, shows, we, took, the, blows.

AND, DID, IT, OUR, WAY!

...Yes, it, was, Canada's, way

(Remove most of the commas if you wanted someone to actually have sung it)
