Olympian2004
maybe the complete male hockey team - I just wonder will the hockey medals given at the Closing Ceremony? No, the hockey medals will be awarded directly after the match, at Canada Hockey Place. But the men's cross-country 50 km mass start medals will be awarded at the closing ceremony. 4seasonscentre
^ ok the ctv headline is "COC denies Hamelin will carry flag" but when you click on the article it says Hamelin will carry the flag My vote is for Bilodeau or Rochette for sure, I can't decide which! scielle
The plot thickens: "Canadian Olympic officials have denied reports that double Olympic champion Charles Hamelin will carry the flag into tonight's closing ceremony for the Winter Games. "He was never offered the position of flag-bearer," said Canadian Olympic Committee spokesman Steve Keogh. The denial comes just hours after the 25-year-old short-track speedskater from Ste-Julie, Que., accepted congratulations at a party that drew many of the Canadian medallists. Two federal government sources also confirmed Hamelin as flag-bearer prior to the COC's denial. Asked about carrying the flag, Hamelin said: "Yes, thank you very much." His choice was confirmed by teammates." http://www.ctvolympics.ca/news-centre/newsid=54368.html#coc+denies+hamelin+will+carry+canadian+flag

Faster
Not so much. She competed, now she needs to go home and bury her mother. To still be in Vancouver is not appropriate. Not to mention she is not even close to our best athlete. The need for sentimentalism in this country is appalling.
Olympian2004
Don't be so harsh, Faster. She probably knows best what is best for her -- and if she feels the need to stay at the Games as long as possible (remember: these were the Games her mother wanted her to go to), she should be allowed to do so. And she hasn't won the Terry Fox Award for nothing. She's a great role model in terms of mental strength.

However, I agree with Olympian2004, if she was offered it then she has every moral and medal right to carry the Canadian flag.
