Many, many thanks to GB members

Recommended Posts

Hey folks!

Longtime lurker here who has lurked these forums for well over a year while preparing for my Vancouver 2010 trip. This forum was an invaluable resource for information, images, useful links, videos, and Vancouver and other local residents' perspectives on this great city and the surrounding area. I returned last night after spending 10 glorious days in Vancouver and I wanted to thank you all for your contributions in what was an incredible experience.

To name a few is to risk overlooking the contributions of the many but I wanted to mention two GB members for special thanks. Mr. X, thanks a ton for all the images you uploaded. These pictures built anticipation, allowed me to get oriented before I set foot on the ground there, and also allowed me to stroll along the seawall and through the streets from over 1600 miles away. Cheers, X!

I would also like to thank JawnBC for allowing us to carry the Olympic torch along with him and documenting the experience with care, great humor, and an infectious joy. The way that you chose to share this experience really did allow other people to carry the torch with you, experience the exhilaration of running with it before thousands of your countrymen, and contribute to the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympic Games. Well done and thank you.

To the rest of you, I cannot thank you enough. I had a marvelous experience and found the people of British Columbia and the rest of Canada exceptionally gracious, generous, and accommodating. The great pride that each of you felt hosting the world was clearly evident and thanks for your contributions in making a great Olympic experience for me and all the other visitors to your great city and country.

Again, thanks for everything! I will absolutely return to Vancouver, fell in love with the city.

loll...all good things come to an end. It's time to move on after 8 years of following my home town's Olympics.

C'mon, you got to stick around. I'm aleady in support of Toronto hosting the summer games or Quebec City hosting the winter games, or... repeats for Calgary and Vancouver! B)

lolll...if GamesBids is still around 30 years from now and Vancouver is hosting the Summer Olympics, sure!

Gamesbids will be around and better; in HD 3D! :P Oh wait, isn't the world supposed to end in two years?:rolleyes:

Mr X, I can understand with the Vancouver journey now approaching its end, you're not likely to be as active as you have been ever since I've arrived at GBids, but if I don't see you dropping in now and then, keeping the Vancouver legacy alive and keeping us up with what's happening on the Canadian Olympic scene, I'll be really angry. You're a member of the family here, we'd expect you to drop in now and then.

And that goes for all you Canucks.

And Hockey Fan ... I hope it's an extended hello from you, rather than a passing visit.

How about this, i'll keep posting until I've reached 20,100 posts.

Though come to think about it...i've posted 20,000 times here? It's a little sad.

....sad that 20,000 posts later, which have mostly happened in the Vancouver forum, in a few months this forum will be shut down.

... I have the impression mr.x suffers the "post-OlympicGames-depressive" phase altough the Vancouver Olympics haven't been over yet and there are still the Paralympics to come in BC!

Haha...I'm going overseas for a conference on the day the Paralympics begin and come back on the day they end.

Anyway, c'mon X, you've indulged a heavy Olympic habit. It's a hard addiction to kick. Don't tell me you wouldn't want to soak in the spirit again as a guest in London or Rio or wherever.

Yo, Mr. X,

I hope you are not leaving us too soon. We still don't know how old are you (N years ago, we had 1 post regarding your age, and you claimed that you just 10 years old. :D)

It's hard to kick the habit to visit GamesBids.com. I was once out of GamesBids.com after Beijing 2008, but I did come back. We love your post, your humour and your critics. Hehe.

Do you know you that your name are "so famous" in Singapore and Malaysia? At least me and Commentator always talking about your posts. :)

Singapore/Malaysia way to keep people: Stay "lah", don't go "lah". :P

  • 2 weeks later...

Glad you enjoyed the boards, which I will be leaving very soon, and that you also greatly enjoyed our city. Please do come back, perhaps in the summer? (we have incredible summers)

Mr. X. - just do like me and float in and out of here as you see fit. No need to leave permanently. Hope you stay.

Juan Antonio
