Recommended Posts

Meine damen und herren, mesdames et monsieurs, ladies and gentlemen...

I'd like to announce the least prestigious anti-Olympic award ever posted in Games Bids...the JUAN:

Please nominate the person, organisation or country that did the least to make the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter games the just aboot right games they are. Nominees will be accepted from now until the close of the games, whereupon the top 3 nominees can be voted for over the following week. The final announcement of the Juan's winner will be made at Monday 8th March (Australian time).

Westergard-Thorpe, that bitch who wanted violent protests.

So, as we stand right now the Juan is up for grabs for these sterling efforts of 'slower, lower, weaker' at Vancouver:

  • The British Media
  • The Republic of South Korea
  • The Anti-Olympic Protesters (including Alissa Westergard-Thorpe) (2 nominations)
  • Eddie McGuire & Mick Molloy

Looks like it could be a split between various media outlets and the anti-Vancouver 2010 whackos. How about Plushenko for his dummy spit, or the International Luge Federation for their piss-poor response to the death of Nodar Kumaritashvili?

Keep those nominees rolling in folks...the Juan could become the next Victoria Cross or at least Victoria not really Cross but still pretty grumpy.

Whoever authorised that great big fence around the Olympic cauldron.

Let's add NBC then, for managing to still find a way to tape delay a virtual whole home time zone olympics.

does anyone know the real reason why they did this?

i can only assume it had to do with the times events being held not being convenient enough for east coast viewers.

So, the leading contenders for the inaugural Juan are...

  1. The anti-Olympic protesters
  2. Evgeny Plushenko

Others to get a nod...

  • Russian Media
  • British Media
  • Channel 9's Eddie McGuire & Mick Molloy
  • NBC
  • The Cauldron Fence (and whoever authorised it)
  • The ban on the boxing kangaroo (and whoever threatened it)
  • El Nino
  • South Korea

Less than 24 hours to finish off the nominees folks...still no nomination for the likes of the FIL, Jacques Rogge, the figure skating judges or whomever turned your Vancouver 2010 experience into a pain in the patoot

Okay, as the Closing Ceremony finishes later today, let's say the nominees close at 6pm Eastern Daylight Time Australia today, and voting should open shortly thereafter.

Have to leave some time/space for anyone who wants to nominate David Atkins in case there's another ceremony stuff up :P

The British and the Russian media deserve the same share of that medal.

Anyone care to split or add to that combined nomination?
