Germany 2006 Fifa World Cup

Recommended Posts

I'm not sure if S. Korea can improve on their showing from last time.  But possible surprise successes in 2006 must include the Ukraine who stand a very good chance of progressing past the group stages and maybe even the quarter finals.  If Ukraine fail to capitalise maybe there will be success from Tunisia and is there the slim possibility of an upset in Group D with Iran?

They would be replaced by Uzbekistan I would assume as they were next in the qualifying group.  It will all probably blow over now there is the threat of being thrown out of the world cup and everyone will get on again - I'll just go and tell juan antonio!

Surely that would be a fifa decision and not a political party in Germany?

The Iranian players need a visa before travelling to Germany. The German authorities can deny these visas.

This just out.  The US denies Cuba participation in the inaugural World Baseball Classic - a World Cup-style tournament, because of the existing trade embargo against Cuba.

Story per USAToday

So a host gov't can do it.  Of course, it will have to be litigated in the courts, etc.

The Green Party of Germany is considering to exclude Iran from taking part in the next years World Cup.

I don't think they should do that.

It would anger the muslim community of Germany, and there's a huge Turkish community.

It could lead to racial tension in Germany.

The German government has done extremely well in staying out of middle east politics, they should start to get involved now.

The only thing is that Ahmadineyad is actually enjoying all the international attention he is getting. As Iran gets more and more criticised around the world, domestically he will grow in popularity and become even stronger. He will get more and more public support in iran.

To ban Iran would be good news for Ahmadineyad, as once again, he could justify his "the world is against us," tone, and the people of Iran will support him even further.

i do not see why Iran isn't banned already - its policies are ain't IOC and should be banned - Iran is a disgrace to humanity and unfortunately it will probably take another revolution in Iran to change things

Yeah, Iran need another revolution. An Islamic Republic isn't chord to the times that are running. Iran should become a lay republic or a parliamentary/constitutional monarchy. :) Turkey is a lay country, their people are Muslims but they aren't scolded with the Western world: they are in the NATO and are an applicant country to the EU. Turkey is an example of what the Muslim country should be.

Not all Turkish citizens are muslims.  They like to make a big thing out of their tourist brochures that they are a mutli-religion society.  In other words, they are like countries such as the UK, a majority, with several minor religions

At least Turkey is a moderate-lay country very united with the Western world, the best example to Iran and Syria...
