baron-pierreIV
So there seems to be a pattern to this curse? So the Euro champion in an Olympic year fails to qualify for the succeeding WC. Hmmmm, interesting.

France of course qualified for 1986... In fact, they get the third place... it was the "Golden Generation" of Michel Platini. After this, they don't qualified until 1998. So the Euro champion in an Olympic year fails to qualify for the succeeding WC. Hmmmm, interesting. Baron... the Euro is played the same years of the Summer Olympic Games ¬¬º Yeah, that's what I said. Like Greece last summer. The Greek team winning the same year their country hosts (coincidentally) the Summer Games but this year fails to qualify for the 2006 World Cup. So it appears there is a slight pattern to this curse. So therefore, the various Euro countries aren't too bad off if they lose at the Euros because they will then have a better chance of qualifying for the next World Cup given that there appears to be some sort of jinx at work. Ahmet
I'm surprised that no one has reported on the European play-offs draw yet; anyways, here are the outcomes of the draw: -> Spain vs Slovakia -> Switzerland vs Turkey -> Norway vs Czech Republic Bring on those Swiss!

baron-pierreIV
OK, how are these play-offs decided? No ties, right? So they go into a 'sudden death' goal shoot out?

It's this -> :glare: Anyway... I think Czech Republic is the most probable winner against Norway and that Spain and Switzerland will have a complicated rival (especially the Swiss). My choices: Czech Republic, Spain and Switzerland Baron... the playoffs are simple... two matches. The winner is the team with more goals in both matches (180 minutes). If they have a same number of goals, the winner will be the team with most goals away. If already the teams are tied, there will be extra time in the second match (two halfs of 15 minutes) and then, the teams go to the Penalties until one of them have two more than the other. Example: *Team A 2:1 Team B / Team B 1:1 Team A -> Team A qualifies *Team A 2:1 Team B / Team B 3:0 Team A -> Team B qualifies *Team A 2:1 Team B / Team B 1:0 Team B -> Team A qualifies *Team A 1:1 Team B / Team B 0:0 Team A -> Team B qualifies *Team A 2:0 Team B / Team B 2:0 Team A -> To extra time or penalties. I want Spain (I have empathy with them as, like England, they are a big team that underacheives) Czech Republic (always entertaining!), and Turkey (don't ask me why). And I think all three will win. Ahmet
i wish you fun with the swiss turkey and i know what im talking about I personally doubt that Switzerland will be able to get by us. First of all, the memories of us being defeated 2 years ago by Latvia which denied us a birth place in EURO 2004 is still strong. Turkey will without a doubt will play a wise, careful determined game so that history wont be repearting its self. Thats not to say that Switzerland wont, I'm sure that they'll put on a good match in return. Also, who did Switzerland come 2nd to? France. They also got a right to a compete in these play offs only ahead by goal differences against Israel. Not a very impressive record if you ask me. Turkey; however, managed to edge out both Denmark and Greece denying both their tickets to go ahead to Germany. So when you lay out all these factors on the table, I think that Turkey should have this one. Of course, anything can happen with respect to this particular match, let me emphasize though nothing is certain.
Faster
i would actually say that Switzerland is the most likely upset - it has one of the strongest team, if went undefeated in qualifying, and has one or two every good strikers TG i wouldn't talk about who you came second to who, since you came second to probably the weakest side from Europe to have qualified thusfar Netherlands - 2 France - 6 Portugal - 9 Sweden - 10 England - 11 Italy - 13 Germany - 15 Poland - 17 Croatia - 24 Ukraine - 39 Serbia and Montenegro - 48 i hope that if there is any "upset" that is is Slovakia over Spain, i want to see a new European team in the finals
Ahmet
LMAO! :laughlong: You are so predictable. FIFA ranking provide how teams faired out on a average based on their past preformances. It isn't anything thats permanently engraved. Changes are bound to occur; however, I assume you already know all of this. Anyways, we'll just have to wait a month from now to see what will unfold. I hope that you wont be betting on any of your predictions. :laughlong:
