Fox334 Posted February 21, 2010 Report Posted February 21, 2010 Well, qualifying is underway for Skicross. After 28 competitors (out of 33) the leader is Micheal Schmid of Switzerland, with Chris Delbosco of Canada in second and Xavier Kuhn of France second. Since a skier didn't make it down, anyone that finishes will make it to the heats. Oh, and Errol Kerr of Jamaica is currently the eight qualifier, which is obviously quite exiting.
micheal_warren Posted February 21, 2010 Report Posted February 21, 2010 Go the Jamaican! Qualified in 9th position. Brilliant effort
stir.ts Posted February 21, 2010 Report Posted February 21, 2010 (edited) It's cool to see Ski-cross at the games. Jonny Mosely is doing a great job. Cypress looks great too. It's funny how the last jump is covered with white plastic to cover the hay bales, it looks good! Edited February 21, 2010 by stirthesoul
Fox334 Posted February 21, 2010 Author Report Posted February 21, 2010 Well, the final is set: Michael Schmid, Switzerland Christopher Delbosco, Canada Andreas Matt, Austria Audun Groenvold, Norway Who will be the first Olympic champion in Skicross?
Fox334 Posted February 21, 2010 Author Report Posted February 21, 2010 Gold: Michael Schmid, Switzerland Silver: Andreas Matt, Austria Bronze: Audun Groenvold, Norway Its great to see Canada's great results continue...
stir.ts Posted February 21, 2010 Report Posted February 21, 2010 Go the Jamaican! Qualified in 9th position. Brilliant effort Dude is American.
dave199 Posted February 21, 2010 Report Posted February 21, 2010 Oh great...another disappointment for Canada. An event we were expected to medal in and we don't medal. Once again the bad luck continues.
Sir Rols Posted February 21, 2010 Report Posted February 21, 2010 Oh great...another disappointment for Canada. An event we were expected to medal in and we don't medal. Once again the bad luck continues. Can't blame him. He was going for all or nothing coming into those final jumps. Good on him for having the ticker to give it every shot he could. Anyway, I don't sem to be as into the skicross as I loved the boardcross. I don't know if its just familarity now, but loved last week, only mildly interested today (and that was with an Aussie making the semis).

NY20?? Posted February 21, 2010 Report Posted February 21, 2010 Funny, I actually find Skicross more exiting that Snowboardcross. Me too, if only because the speeds seem higher.
Fox334 Posted February 21, 2010 Author Report Posted February 21, 2010 Me too, if only because the speeds seem higher. They are, they actually added more jumps to control the skier's speed.
micheal_warren Posted February 22, 2010 Report Posted February 22, 2010 Dude is American. He might be american but is is competing under the Jamaican flag. Must be one of there best results in the winter olympics
lpatron Posted February 22, 2010 Report Posted February 22, 2010 Funny, I actually find Skicross more exiting that Snowboardcross. I like the snowboard cross better - it seemed to me like those were closer races. The skicross races seemed to be over pretty quick (meaning who started out in first usually won), and unless someone wiped out, there wasn't all the passing and reshuffling of snowboard cross. Still fun to watch - love seeing the air they get on those jumps!
Hachiko Posted February 23, 2010 Report Posted February 23, 2010 Makes you wonder if the IOC will want to keep this in for the long haul. The USA men sucked at this event. Big time.
gotosy Posted February 23, 2010 Report Posted February 23, 2010 Ladies' Ski Cross: Gold: McIvor (Canada) Silver: Berntsen (Norway) Bronze: Josserand (France)
Fox334 Posted February 24, 2010 Author Report Posted February 24, 2010 Ladies' Ski Cross: Gold: McIvor (Canada) Silver: Berntsen (Norway) Bronze: Josserand (France) Good stuff! Really dominant showing from McIvor in the final. Anyway, I find it a bit sad that neither Kraus nor David medaled, it would have been nice to see the two old powerhouse win something in Whistler. But, well, at least they both got to go to the Olympics.
micheal_warren Posted February 24, 2010 Report Posted February 24, 2010 Congrats to Canada! Great to get another medal. New Zealand finished a disappointing 30th in this event. Really poor result from New Zealand
OneTimeOnly Posted February 24, 2010 Report Posted February 24, 2010 I prefer SnowBoard Cross to Ski Cross. More fun to watch, IMO.
baron-pierreIV Posted February 24, 2010 Report Posted February 24, 2010 How about skeleton ski-cross??
The Moose Posted March 1, 2010 Report Posted March 1, 2010 I guess IOC added this sport in order to seem cool or something, but just as for curling, based on the Norwegian results, I don't see why this is an olympic sport. Both Norwegian medal winners were mediocre in traditional alpine skiing before they decided to shift ground....

To be fair, Ski Cross is quite different from any alpine discipline, its like saying that the Downhill shouldn't be an Olympic sport because the medalists had mediocre career as technical skiers. Also, the start (which is crucial in ski cross) is very different that an alpine start.
