Citius Altius Fortius Posted February 18, 2010 Report Posted February 18, 2010 (edited) I am astonished that there hasn't been a "real" Ice Hockey thread so far I am just watching Cesko vs. Slovensko Edited February 18, 2010 by Citius Altius Fortius
Citius Altius Fortius Posted February 18, 2010 Author Report Posted February 18, 2010 will Switzerland have a chance vs. Canada today? What do you think will be result?
Olympian2004 Posted February 21, 2010 Report Posted February 21, 2010 Oh dear -- Germany stood no real chance in this tournament anyway, but now they have lost three times in a row, even against Belarus. A real embarrassment. And Germany hosts the World Championships come May!
Faster Posted February 21, 2010 Report Posted February 21, 2010 You make it sound like Belarus has a bad team. They don't. Almost all of Belarus's team plays in one of the three top leagues (NHL, AHL, KHL), Germany has 7 NHL players. And its not like Germany hasn't played well. They were competitive against Sweden and Belarus.
Apple Posted February 21, 2010 Report Posted February 21, 2010 Super Sunday with intense rivalry with Czech vs Russia Canada vs USA
Faster Posted February 21, 2010 Report Posted February 21, 2010 You are forgetting the biggest hockey rival. Suomi vs. Sverige
Fox334 Posted February 22, 2010 Report Posted February 22, 2010 Women's Semi-final #1 United States 9 - 1 Sweden Looks like 2006 was a fluke after all, and if the results of recent junior championships are any indication the gap between North America and Europe is widening and fast. I mean, at last year's U18 worlds the closest any team got to Canada or the US was 5 goals and one of the semi-final was 18-0...
Faster Posted February 22, 2010 Report Posted February 22, 2010 I don't think juniors are a good indicator, especially for smaller population countries.
Fox334 Posted February 22, 2010 Report Posted February 22, 2010 I don't think juniors are a good indicator, especially for smaller population countries. Well, its an indicator that the upcoming Fins, Swedes and Czech aren't challenging the upcoming Canadians and Americans. Its not a definite factor, but it is certainly not a good sign.
Faster Posted February 22, 2010 Report Posted February 22, 2010 Well, its an indicator that the upcoming Fins, Swedes and Czech aren't challenging the upcoming Canadians and Americans. Its not a definite factor, but it is certainly not a good sign. Sweden went over 20 years within a junior medal on the men's side yet they with the Soviets are the only teams two win 2 Olympic golds. Its not the best indicator, especially since Europeans tend to develop slower.
Nick DiColandrea Posted February 23, 2010 Report Posted February 23, 2010 I don't think I was ever as excited about Team USA Hockey than I was last night. I was cheering like I would be for an NHL game. Or a Mississippi State hockey game (yes we have a team and yes we are good!). But that is what is so great about the Games IMO. We find passion for competition on a world stage we never knew we had.
Hachiko Posted February 23, 2010 Report Posted February 23, 2010 This was great yesterday. Round 2, Thursday!
Victor Mata Posted February 24, 2010 Report Posted February 24, 2010 Canadian response to the USA X CANADA hockey game
4seasonscentre Posted February 24, 2010 Report Posted February 24, 2010 OMG, I had CTV on in the background and turned to see a player on the floor lifting his head and there was was I can only describe as goop behind his head before they cut to a different shot. I think it was Lubs Bartecko of Slovakia. On the replay they showed him getting hit and his helmet popping off, then falling to the ground. Hope he's ok.
4seasonscentre Posted February 24, 2010 Report Posted February 24, 2010 Link to pick- it's graphic! Pic
dave199 Posted February 25, 2010 Report Posted February 25, 2010 Canada is murdering Russia 6-1. Finally Team Canada has turned the switch on. They look great!
dave199 Posted February 25, 2010 Report Posted February 25, 2010 7-2 now This games is gonna be the most viewed sporting event in Canada's history...lol
4seasonscentre Posted February 25, 2010 Report Posted February 25, 2010 ^ actually, because it's so lopsided, some of us are watching other critical events!
dave199 Posted February 25, 2010 Report Posted February 25, 2010 Game over...Canada wins and heads into the Semi finals knocking out Russia with a commanding score 7-3.
Faster Posted February 25, 2010 Report Posted February 25, 2010 Now its Sweden or Slovakia. One win to a medal now.
dave199 Posted February 25, 2010 Report Posted February 25, 2010 Who will Canada face in the Semi Finals?
