SG1 you're full of s**t. I don't even know where to begin, but saying there's no well known music coming out of Canada? The biggest thing in Hip Hop right now is Drake (openly and proudly Canadian in many of his videos I may add) and the biggest thing in pop right now is Justin Bieber,

You're right about Drake, but definetely not about Bieber, this isn't 2010 anymore.

Anyway, of course there are a lot of famous Canadian musicians, saying the contrary is absolutely ridiculous.

I won't continue any further since I've wasted enough time on you already, your racism was bad enough, but this is making you sound like a bitter troll.

It seems people misunderstood what I was trying to say. Yes Justin Bieber is popular, and yes, Drake is popular. But what I was trying to say, there are many acts from Canada that are only popular within Canada, and those acts tend be annoying. Obviously, Bieber and Drake don't fit into this category. Neither does Celine Dion or Michael Buble, there are many others I could add. But what is upmost annoyance, is when you turn on a classic rock station in Canada, sure you'll hear some Floyd, and some Zeppelin, then you'll have to hear April Wine, and then other bands that were only popular in Canada like Blue Rodeo, thanks to having Sirius XM you don't have to hear that nonsense anymore.

Why is this imporant anyways, this was about discussing a Toronto bid which those of us from the GTA should support. I sure support it, as I've said, it is the kick the city needs in the head to actually start agreeing on things and building transportation infrastructure. The Pan American Games are not popular with the general public, and currently, it is quite obvious the general population, not us on this site, vehemently oppose any Olympic Bid because of the costs involved.

What changes would Toronto need to make from their Pan Am Games plan for a future Olympic bid? Obviously it would need to be more compact and would utilize the Air Canada Center.

Pretty much everything. Only venues that can be used are the Aquatics Centre (for water polo) and possibly the BMX track.

In an Olympic situation, wouldn't the Air Canada Center best be utilized as the place where Gymnastics is held and the Basketball final is held?

Arenas are plenty throughout the GTA, at least ones with a capacity of 5,000. I believe Toronto already has enough venues to cover all the indoor events. How big capacity is usually used for Preliminary Basketball games? Would Ricoh or the Mattamy Athletic Centre (formerly Maple Leaf Gardens) do the trick? Other than gymnastics, is there any indoor event (besides swimming of course) that needs to take place in an NHL capacity sized arena?

Intoronto made a full plan if you would like to see it. Gymnastics were supposed to be at the Direct Energy Centre in 2008, with one of the halls seating 20,000. Basketball would have been at the ACC, and volleyball preliminaries at the Hershey Centre with the finals at the gymnastics arena. I think the best plan for a future bid would be basketball at the ACC, volleyball at the Direct Energy Centre with maybe 15,000 seats, and a brand new arena in the Olympic Park for gymnastics and handball finals (there will probably be need for a new arena to replace the ACC by the time Toronto wins the Olympics). Ricoh Coliseum would host handball prelims as it was supposed to in 2008, and I think Mattamy could hold badminton (intoronto disagrees with me), because the badminton requirement is 4,000, the arena seats about 2,500, and there's room to add about 1,500 temporary seats.

I can see 2032 being Toronto VS New York City, would you agree? It would be hard to choose between the two. Toronto has some existing Venues from the 2015 Pan American Games, while New York City would be a nice destination aswell.

No, I don't think we will ever see New York host, the city does not need the games and it does not look like they want them. I would love to see Toronto host 2032, that would be so awesome!

Well we now know they could possibly be candidate city for 2024 ;)

It's unfortunate the Toronto council executive comittee turned down this bid without waiting it out longer to get a better sense who the competition will be and the liklihood of actually winning. I wonder where each of Toronto's mayoral candidates stand on this issue? Is it politically possible now the new mayor could bring this bid back to life somehow? Or was the vote by Executive committee fully binding?

2032 looks good. Just a long ways out!

The report is done. I don't understand why the city needs to spend a million on a more detailed report. That was voted down, not a bid. So hypothetically speaking a bid is still possible (however I wouldn't bid for 2024).

I have a feeling that wasn't the last we'll here about a 2024 bid. I agree that it wouldn't make sense to go for it right now, but once that wack job is out of office and we can start to see what the field looks like, maybe a bid will become more viable. Perhaps at least a trial run for 2032 or even further down the road.

I hope someone asks Olivia Chow where she stands on Toronto's Olympic dream. She's looking like the clear frontrunner to be Toronto's next mayor. With his latest rehab stint Rob Ford is definitely on the outs!

I must admit the United States are looking pretty good in their bid for 2024. If they win, what does this mean for Canada? 2036 then?

If the next Toronto bid is anything like the 2008 bid, I am going to be backing it to the end. For some reason Toronto and Canada excite me more than an American games, I have the feeling that America will not be frugal or responsible; we will spend at least 20 billion dollars. I'm calling that now....

You can't make such a call without any evidence....

Well LA and Dallas so far have proposed a budget of nearly 8 billion dollars. Adding in the usual ballooning of prices the cost would normally double and be close to 16 billion dollars. Then you always have security and surprising cost which can add 4 billion to the total cost which brings you a total that is comfortably in the 20 billion dollar price range.

The next American games is not going to be frugal, they will very expensive. It's one of the reasons why I would like the US to bid for 2028 or 2032 and see the cities that can host and want to host implement their plans to general city planning.

I will say that LA would probably be the cheaper of the cities with final figures coming in at 15 billion or so...
