Nagasu deserved fourth place, but not the bronze. While she did 'attack' her program, the level of footwork difficulties and her overall levels for her straight line sequence and her circular footwork sequences were not the same as Rochette's. Rochette had more difficult footwork, more body movement (ie, changing directions several times within the circular step sequence) and her jumps did have more flow. You might have noticed that at the end there was a delay, that was because for Nagasu, the judges had to go through every jump to see if it was cheated or not. While her jumps were not downgraded, the grades of execution were not all as high because they had to examine the jumps to make sure. This is the reason she finished fourth, but man, she was good and she will only continue to get better!

With respect, every single reason you gave is addressed in the technical elements score where Nagasu deservedly outscored Rochette. You are mistaken about the GOE. Although Rochette's levels were higher, Nagasu's GOE was better and therefore she got the higher marks for technical elements(remember Rochette's 2 step outs?). The protocols will confirm this. The only place where Rochette scored higher than Nagasu was in the Program Components which are the equivalent of the old artistic mark and, incidentally, totally subjective. Regarding the short program score, yes Rochette should've been scored higher than Nagasu and she was. (I still question the point differential a little bit.) It's mainly Rochette's LP Program Component score that seemed inflated. Admittedly, Nagasu is new to the world stage and she will have more opportunities. Considering the circumstances, Rochette's skate was nothing short of miraculous and that is absolutely worthy of commendation.

See? This is what they should be making instead of those silly Mario and Sonic at the Olympics games or whatever is its name.

Nagasu only beat Rochette in the technical score by 3 points, which is because her higher levels gave her more base points. Rochette's PC score was higher, yes, but deserved. Her skating skills, choreography and presentation were better and stronger.

First, 3 points is not totally infinitesimal. Second, I just disagree about her skating skills, choreography and presentation -- they were older and heavier, not better and stronger.

Rochette really deserved the medal. She together with Kim and Asada were above everyone in that competition. Rochette's choreography, presentation and skating skills were way better than Nagasu. Nagasu still needs to mature as a skater.

Absolutely! And not just because she's Canadian. :)

JoAnnie has always had an elegance that Asada lacks--and Kim used to lack. Plus the athleticism.

I was there for the long and was listening to the in-house "Axel Radio" commentary by two judges, one TES, one PCS. They really gave me a clearer sense of how scores are allocated. For the long, JoAnnie downgraded 2 jumps--otherwise she'd've got the silver. The only time Axel radio got it all wrong was Lambiel in the long.

That little device was worth the $20!
