Sir Rols
The next thing, you'll be suggesting the IOC should hand over its entire role to the UN! Or vice-versa. What a great idea! Instead of the US Government funding the UN, NBC could take over!
zenica
German government has ordered a new report regarding the problematic stadiums. Let´s see what happens
zenica
Regarding security: during the world cup 2006 it´s forbidden for airplanes to fly nearer than 50 km to the stadiums. We are waiting for the new report ordered by the government for the problematic stadiums.
zenica
It´s time that Munich will announce it´s interest in a bid for Winter Games 2018. Besides Munich Grenoble will be a strong candidate as the favorite for 2014 is PyoengChang.
Sir Rols
It´s time that Munich will announce it´s interest in a bid for Winter Games 2018. Besides Munich Grenoble will be a strong candidate as the favorite for 2014 is PyoengChang. Jeez you're an impatient fellow! It's only a few months since the 2014 bidders had to announce their interest, and you already want Munich to start its bid race for 2018! Far, far too early. Munich already indicated it's musing winter bids last year, but it's far too early for it to declare its hand for 2018. For a start, it will depend a lot on who wins 2018 _ if Salzburg does it (and it has a good chance), then there's no way Munich would get it. Then there's the question of whether the German NOC wants to go for a summer games instead (they won't wait till 2036 just because you'd like it that way). If they do go for the summer games, they probably won't want Munich to try for the winters. It'll be 2-3 years before it's time foir the 2018 winter candidates to start lining up. In the meantime, it's all silent, behind the scenes work putting together preliminary plans so they are ready if they DO decide to bid.
zenica
Right, Salzburg is a candidate for 2014. But I think their chances are really small after Torino 2006 and Vancouver 2010. So PC or another Asian candidate would be favorite. So Munich would have a realistic chance for 2018. See my comments on "Time is passing by" regarding Munich´s bid. I´m not impatient. The decision for 2014 is in July 2007 (next year), for 2018 in July 2009. It seems to be a lot of time but it is not. There is a lot to do and no time to waste. Sir Rols
Well, considering Munich was all set to go for 2014, then dropped out when the German NOC didn't support it for whatever reasons, I'd say pre-planning was already well advanced for a Munich winter bid whenever they decide to go. As I said, the 2014 race has only just begun. The main thing that will affect any potential Munich bid's chances is how 2014 ends.
arwebb
Another year or so and maybe Munich can really start to think about 2018, but let's get 2014 sorted first, shall we?

zenica
Sidestep: The IOC session before the Torino Games would be a great chance to continue in reforming IOC (not only in personal sight). No programs, developments for future. To bring more fresh air, power and flexibility into the organisation. This would also be the same for FIFA and UEFA. zenica
Kofi Annan has visited the big sport organisations IOC and FIFA. During the meetings both sides agreed a better cooperation in AIDS prevention, environmental issues, development of education, health etc.

zenica
The mayor of Grenoble wants to bid for 2018 but French minister for sport is not sure if France will bid next time. They first want to analize why they lost three times. My opinion is that they playing the same game as German OC which prefers to get Summer Games. Munich and Grenoble are perfect candidates for 2018. Berlin or Paris will have a lot more real strong competitors. So both "Winter cities" will have problems to get the support they need. Winter Games are definitely easier to get than Summer Games.

zenica
It was a speculation when PC wins 2014 what would happen next. Obviously Europe should be in the major role for 2018 then

Sir Rols
And if Salzurg wins, it's open slather for anywhere BUT Europe. Jeez, even the southern hemisphere (Christchurch, Santiago) would have a chance then!
zenica
Sure, but I think 2014 goes to Asia and 2018 to Europe.Let´s see what happens 2022.
arwebb
I suppose North America would re-enter the fray for 2022 in that scenario. But it would be a pretty open race.
