Sir Rols
Maybe there is a candidate from South America to host the Games. I think this would be only democratic I'd really love to see a South American candidate do it _ Santiago is the standoput _ and I really believe it could be done. If you look at some of the opast threads on the issue though, the jury is still out here on how realistic it really is.
arwebb
We'll only know if they're given a chance.
zenica
It would be necessary not to exclude South America from the bid race. Then we will see a strong bid from there. This also would be in the meaning of the Olympic movement.
arwebb
It does get a tad boring to see the Winter Olympics following a similar rotation all the time, but the problem is where else can it go? Can Santiago and other southern hemisphere cities prove they can host the event? For the good of the event, I hope so.
Sir Rols
It does get a tad boring to see the Winter Olympics following a similar rotation all the time, but the problem is where else can it go? Can Santiago and other southern hemisphere cities prove they can host the event? For the good of the event, I hope so. When it comes to the southern hemisphere, there are really only three viable candidates: NZ (Christchurch/Queenstown), Chile (Santiago) and Argentina (Bariloche). Physically, they all would be able to host _ no worries there. The only problem is that the southern contenders face two main problems: *Timing _ they would have to be held in the northern winter sports off-season and not in the usual northern winter games TV slots. Not that I think that's an insuperable issue. * Sports tradition _ none can point to any great legacy of success in the winter games (NZ is the best of three, with one silver, I think. Australia's the only southern country to have cracked gold at the WOGs, but it can't physically host a WOG).
zenica
Maybe (in farer future) we should try it with a candidate from New Zealand. Or maybe someone find another possibility to host games in the south...

Sir Rols
The EU sticking their meddling noses in would only make things worse and more difficult to organise. Who needs another level of beaurocracy to need to satisfy when you've already got a difficult organising task ahead of you.

zenica
German government came to the decision that everything is perfect with the stadiums for WorldCup 2006. zenica
But all of the European countries have given the rights to do so to the EU. That´s why EU is doing so.
arwebb
The governments have, not the peoples of the nations. If it were up to us, you'd see a very different state of affairs, preferably no EU at all.

arwebb
A proportion of the people (by no means a majority in our case) may have elected governments, but you must surely realise that that does mean everything they do is for the benefit of its people. arwebb
And your opinion is that the EU should reach further into our lives. I profoundly disagree. Instead of preaching at us all, why not have a proper debate about the issue?
