EU representation in great sport events

Recommended Posts

I know of Inzell with its capability as a speed skating venue here. I saw a speed skating world championship on TV from there about 2 years ago. As for the bobsleigh/luge/skeleton track, it could be an Olympic venue soon.

FIFA and UEFA has to work very close the the EU commission for culture and youth to clear any problems and bring out new laws and ideas. Without the cooperation there is a big lack in security, doping, development, aid etc. All big sport organisations should be part of this cooperation. This also should be for the big sport events in Europe like OG´s, WCs and ECs. There should be a greater responsibility of both parts to find a better organisation. This is also the case for media, tv-rights etc. And for other big projects where both parties are involved this should be not neglected. All sport political issues should be not forgotten.

In Garmisch-Partenkirchen the official skiing season has started on Mount Zugspitze. About 2500 ski fans have enjoyed the new snow today. This is a fine beginning of the ski year and a plus for the bid of Munich for winter 2018. There is an excellent organisation there.

the European commission for culture and youth has to do a very intense cooperation with IOC,FIFA and UEFA in the areas of economy, tourism, tv-rights, security, doping, development etc. Besides the EU commission there has to be a responsible person to connect between the organisations and EU for big events in Europe as OG´s, WC´s, EC´s, Champions League and others. It´s also a matter of money. I.e. there is expected a revenue of 480 millon for EC Switzerland/Austria and 200 million for tourism. Only one skiing event brings about 7 million Euro. We are not talking about F1-races with 100 million Euro. This is also the case for media and TV-rights. So EU has to have close contact with these sport organisations.

The commission for culture and youth has to start cooperation with IOC, FIFA and UEFA during the next few monthes to bring reforms into these organisations as they seem not to be able to do something in political, economical and a more flexible structure. At the moment everything seems to be very well and so they are not interested to bring sport more and more on top. This will be one of the major jobs to reform and support reforms during the next period of time.

EU and it´s commission have to investigate as there are several problems with some stadiums in Germany for WC 2006 (Frankfurt and Kaiserslautern). This shows the low standard of this buildings for which the OC is responsible and it´s millenium-president. To which companies they have given the orders to build (rebuild) the stadiums? This is very low level. It´s not all gold what looks like. This should have consequences. The spectators should be save when visiting the matches. It´s a shame for the organisators of WC 2006. Safety first should be top priority. Remember the corruption affairs during the building of Allianz-Arena in Munich. This is something should doesn´t bring high scores for the organisators. This has to be better coordinated. It has to be checked who does the work and who gets the orders. This should be also the case for the other big events in Europe like Torino 2006, EC Switzerland/Austria 2008 and so on.

Zen, you might actually make a very good auditor for these int'l sporting events.  No, seriously.  You seem to be very passionate about fiscal responsibility.  You should find a way to channel this properly ; then you might make a good living at what you're crazy about.

Me?  I like fiscal irresponsibility.  I like to see host cities spend irrationally and frivolously, working with the motto:   Spend for today; tomorrow will take care of itself.  Hopefully.  :wwww:

What's wrong with the Frankfurt and Kaiserslautern stadia?  Will they collapse?  Where did you read about the defects of these two 2006 venues?

Regarding the German WC venues: this was printed in German papers today (in nearly every newspaper). This was Kaiserslautern. Last week they had a problem in Nuernberg. During the Fed Cup in June they had big problems with the roof. Today they have closed the stadium in Kaiserslautern for the football match which should have been today. This is not the standard we are used here in Germany. Carelessness sometimes could cost human life -innocent victims.

Beckenbauer and the DFB have nothing to do with the construction contracts. Blame the local authorities and local politicans but not the World-Cup OC.

Blatters idea to make stadiums smoke-free areas is a good idea. Also not to allow alcohol would be great. This would prevent a lot of excesses as seen during the last weeks. No hooligans would like to come into the stadiums. Sport has nothing to do with smoke, alcohol and drugs. EU should also go the hard way and bring out new laws. UN has already started with this (it´s forbidden for their people to smoke and drink). All big organisations should follow this example. This has nothing to do with sports.

EU and UEFA, FIFA are working hand in hand. In future this should also be possible with IOC and other big organisations. This cooperation will be in future in the areas of security, marketing, doping, culture, development, tv-rights, media etc. This is an important step for a constant cooperation, with control and help of the EU during OG´s, WC, EC etc.

beginning with next year the whole sport in Germany is under one organisation. So there is time to choose Munich as candidate for 2018 Winter Games. Munich has, together with Garmisch-Partenkirchen and other cities, a lot of complete venues (ready to go) and the infrastructure to host the Games. The prerequisitions to host the Games are excellent.

To "wash money" in football seems to be very attractive. It doesn´t matter that a part of it get lost, most important is, the money is now "clean". EU has to have an eye on this criminal actions and observe manipulated matches together with UEFA and FIFA, as these organsiations are not in a postition to do any legal actions so they need EU. First of all the criminal actions are in the transfer amounts of the players and in bid-manipulations. EU has to  be active part in this case and has to observe these actions.

FIFA want to do soemthing against rassism in stadiums. Also the other organisations like IOC and UEFA should follow FIFA on this way. The penalties will go from fines to locked stadiums and jail.

This should be done together with EU to have the right support. This will be important during WC 2006 and the following big sport events.

As like the organisation of Torino 2006 has big financial problems for future OG´s IOC, FIFA and others have to bare a part of the risk, too. They only want to have the profit but don´t want to pay  for the losses. This will have an impact on the decision who will host big sport events in future. EU also has to have an eye on it that in case of big losses, the risk has to be taken by all participiants, not only the host cities. The beginning of this process should start very soon next year, together with restructuring. This will minimize big losses like Athens etc in future where the host cities are ruined after the events.

Just read the story of the Greek IOC member Lambis Nikolau which pressed the worng button, so Madrid was out of the race for 2012. Maybe London wouldn´t have got the Games, who knows. It´s ridiculous that decisions of that importancy are depending on people who seems to have forgotten their head at home. That is an additional arguement to restructure IOC and renew the staff. For more details see GamesBids news from 23 December.

Mikel and ReadyForYou, what do you think about this story? Isn´t it frustrating? Sure, this was a mistake of a single person. But do I expect to much when I ask for a little bit of concentration in such an important moment? I think we need these reformation of IOC (and other organisations), to get the Grandpas out of it.

It´s not the question, if Madrid would have won, I only want to say that there has something to change in these big organisations. Sure, #### happens and mistakes are only human. But I want to have these mistakes reduced to an absolutely minimum. Think on the decision for WC 2006 in Germany. This was something similar.
