dave199 Posted February 21, 2010 Report Posted February 21, 2010 The Canadian men have been sucking big time at the Oval. No medals again. Garbage!!
nykfan845 Posted February 21, 2010 Report Posted February 21, 2010 Man, that Dutchman had the race of his life! Shani gets silver. Not too shabby!
canuckfan Posted February 21, 2010 Report Posted February 21, 2010 Man, talk about a choke job by Denny Morrison. How could he choke when he wasn't a favorite to begin with? He was not good at all this year so it's hardly surprising. CTV is hyping any athlete who won a world cup medal or two in the last few years... That's why the results look so bad even if they're not surprising at all.

Sports Illustrated had Morrison down for Silver in the 1000m and 1500m. The same with the Associated Press. And isn't Morrison ranked high in both those distances on the World Cup Circuit?
canuckfan Posted February 21, 2010 Report Posted February 21, 2010 Sports Illustrated had Morrison down for Silver in the 1000m and 1500m. The same with the Associated Press. And isn't Morrison ranked high in both those distances on the World Cup Circuit? No he's not. In 9 races he won three bronze medals. That's it. Sports Illustrated just copy the results of the previous world championships for the most part...
Faster Posted February 21, 2010 Report Posted February 21, 2010 canuckfan - Morrison is ranked higher in the world cup than both his finishes so far.
canuckfan Posted February 21, 2010 Report Posted February 21, 2010 canuckfan - Morrison is ranked higher in the world cup than both his finishes so far. Yes, but I'm just he was hardly a medal favorite. Last year yes, this year no. Just another athlete who peaked one or two years too soon. CTV had no business hyping him as Shani Davis' big rival.
Faster Posted February 21, 2010 Report Posted February 21, 2010 He should have been better in both races.
dave199 Posted February 21, 2010 Report Posted February 21, 2010 Yes he should have. And now we get more Canadian chokes in Short Track. Charles Hamelin fails to medal and places 4th and Francois Hamelin finishes 5th. I can't believe how many chokes have taken place by our Canadian athletes.
Faster Posted February 21, 2010 Report Posted February 21, 2010 Why is it always chokes. Hamelins got beat. They went out to fast and got beat.
dave199 Posted February 21, 2010 Report Posted February 21, 2010 Why is it always chokes. Hamelins got beat. They went out to fast and got beat. Because he didn't perform up to par with the other athletes. Charles Hamelin was a heavy favourite to medal here and he didn't come through once again.
Faster Posted February 21, 2010 Report Posted February 21, 2010 I wouldn't say heavy. The competition was between the Koreans (all 3 of them), Ohno and Hamelin, and only 3 medal. He just happened to be on the outside looking in. Chocking would be to not get out of the heats.
dave199 Posted February 22, 2010 Report Posted February 22, 2010 Is Britney Schussler really amongst the best of the ladies in the 1500m. If she is that performance she had now was horrible.
dave199 Posted February 22, 2010 Report Posted February 22, 2010 Just a Silver for Kristina Groves in the 1500m. Nesbitt was expected to medal but finishes 6th.
Fox334 Posted February 22, 2010 Author Report Posted February 22, 2010 Man, we better start firing people at Speed Skating Canada. The performances so far are unacceptable.
Faster Posted February 22, 2010 Report Posted February 22, 2010 Like 8 people beat the times of the world championships last year. Give them a break.
A.W.T Posted February 22, 2010 Report Posted February 22, 2010 I knew things would be tough when that skater beat the Track Record before the midway point of the competition. I was more than happy with Groves. She pushed hard for that Silver Medal. Christine Nesbitt also put in a gutsy performance, but I feel she should have been able to make the podium. Just wasn't a good weekend for Canadian Long Track (or short track for that matter) The biggest disappointment in speed skating for Canada at these games is clearly Denny Morrison.
canuckfan Posted February 22, 2010 Report Posted February 22, 2010 Man, we better start firing people at Speed Skating Canada. The performances so far are unacceptable. I agree. The coaching staff completely screwed up when they designed the training program. The whole team peaked at the wrong time. Nerves could explain one of two bad perfomances, but almost all the skaters ended up way below their world ranking, Groves being the only exception. But then again, she almost never has a bad race.
gotosy Posted February 23, 2010 Report Posted February 23, 2010 Men 10K: Netherlands' Kramer disqualified, gold to Korea
A.W.T Posted February 23, 2010 Report Posted February 23, 2010 Men 10K: Netherlands' Kramer disqualified, gold to Korea Why did he get disqualified? I didn't see it. That's going to be a huge blow to him, wasn't he the favourite?
Apple Posted February 23, 2010 Report Posted February 23, 2010 was in the wrong lane for like two seconds. Didn't make the switch
gotosy Posted February 23, 2010 Report Posted February 23, 2010 he was disqualified after skating into the wrong lane
4seasonscentre Posted February 23, 2010 Report Posted February 23, 2010 My link Kramer came out of the inner lane with nine of 25 laps left to skate. He was supposed to change lanes and head into the outer lane, but instead entered the next inner lane. Kramer's coach, Gerard Kemkers, could clearly been seen pointing Kramer towards the wrong lane. What a horrible way to lose!
LuigiVercotti Posted February 23, 2010 Report Posted February 23, 2010 Why did he get disqualified? I didn't see it. That's going to be a huge blow to him, wasn't he the favourite? Didn't change lanes correctly as far as I can see. What a stuff up!
4seasonscentre Posted February 23, 2010 Report Posted February 23, 2010 South Korean Lee, who slashed more than 22 seconds off his own personal best, had been celebrating in the infield long before world record holder Kramer, who skated in the final heat, finished. Source: BBC That's not cool!
