Faster
it is no hiding the fact that some of the groups in the European qualifing are a bit easier then others Euro Groups so what if instead of the draw they just put nations in groups depending on their FIFA ranking, if that was down the groups would have looked like this as of August 2004 Group One 1. France 2. Greece 3. Romania 4. Israel 5. Estonia 6. Lithuania 7. San Marino Group Two 1. Spain 2. Denmark 3. Norway 4. Scotland 5. Ukraine 6. Azerbaijan Group Three 1. Czech Republic 2. Republic of Ireland 3. Bulgaria 4. Wales 5. Austria 6. Malta Group Four 1. Netherlands 2. Sweden 3. Slovenia 4. Slovakia 5. Cyprus 6. Faroe Islands Group Five 1. England 2. Croatia 3. Serbia and Montenegro 4. Bosnia and Herzegovina 5. Georgia 6. Kazakhstan Group Six 1. Italy 2. Russia 3. Switzerland 4. Hungary 5. Moldova 6. Andorra Group Seven 1. Turkey 2. Poland 3. Finland 4. Iceland 5. Northern Ireland 6. Liechtenstein Group Eight 1. Portugal 2. Belgium 3. Latvia 4. Belarus 5. Armenia 6. Luxembourg so what do yout think

ghost1
They arrange the groups according to the coefficients from the last two qualifications - in the case of 2006 - from WC 2002 and EURO 2004 results
arwebb
Group Five would be a bit tasty.
Guardian
With so many national teams in Europe, it is amazing to me that UEFA is not having "much difficulty" getting these sort of qualification schemes for World Cups, as an example. arwebb
I wouldn't trust the FIFA rankings. I prefer the way the groups are worked out at the moment.
Faster
the groups at the moment suck, there are extremely hard groups one and two, then extremely easy ones like England's group
arwebb
Makes a change for us to have a relatively straight-forward group. It always seems to be Spain or Italy that gets them. I wouldn't say Italy's group was particularly taxing, would you?
