zenica
During his visit in Stockholm Beckenbauer stated that, if Johansson doens´t want to do the job any longer, he want to candidate for the presidency - besides Michel Platini. Beckenbauer takes over every job without asking. That´s characteristic for these kind of people who do not know when their time is over. Michel Platini is 10 years younger. This is the right sign for the great organisations to bring younger people into top management as younger people are more flexible to start new projects. So everything speaks for Platini. He is the right man for the job. There has to be a chance for the younger one´s. The world belongs to the younger people in future, not to the older one. People in these jobs have to show moral and not egoism.
baron-pierreIV
I agree with you on Blatter's ridiculous comments about national anthems, even if they are being booed by opposing fans. He really does come out with so much nonsense. Exactly. Such utterances as ... - ... no rotation - ... the WC should visit Australia - ... the UK should bid for 2018. This is the man who will continue to lead FIFA?
arwebb
England should bid for the World Cup was one of his more sensible utterances. The problem with him is that he says things that you can't do anything but agree with, but when he is pressed on it he is exposed as a man who can only come out with hollow words and not back them up with action. As for Beckenbauer, Zenica, he probably feels he still has a lot to offer European football and I think he's right.
zenica
Today UEFA boss Johansson said, that he don´t want to be elected once again. So he forced Beckenbauer as his successor. Beckenbauer stated, that he don´t want to be candidate if Johansson still want to continue as president. If we have a look at the managers in the big companies which are all about 40 to 50 years old, there is the question: what do people like Blatter, Johansson etc in positions like that? The big organisations have to renewed. It is no democratic choice to choose one of your friends as your successor. This smells more like Mafia. Younger people have more time to bring their vision into reality, not the old people which are in nursing homes in 10 years. There are surely more people besides Platini which are much younger than the establishment. The organisations don´t need iconic figures (Beckenbauer is one) they need people which are able to bring something new into sports. Dogmas have to pass by. There are a lot of charismatic people which also could do the job (Eusebio, Charlton etc). That´s why I am for renewed organisations with younger people, not with the old one, although they have their merits and experience.

arwebb
How many times does it have to be said? It is not a question of age. It is a question of ability to do the job. I believe Beckenbauer has it, while Platini's is, at best, questionable.
zenica
Regarding the problems in the WC stadiums in Germany, Mr. Blatter said, that it will be checked by FIFA during the next weeks, There will be fixed dates until which all problems have to be solved. Also there will an investigation of FIFA because of the excesses in Hamburg of a few spectators. There have to be something done from OC in the case of security. Trusting is ok but it is not ok to throw something onto the match field. There have to be strict controls. Blatter gave the OC a B+ for their work. Also for the ticketing there has to be a better solution. Control is ok but it can´t be that it lasts hours for the spectators to get into the stadiums. zenica
All the things happened (see Blatter´s message) as a lot of "experienced" people are in OC. As Martin Kallen, CEO of EC Portugal, said in an interview, there were only 10 people from 200 that had any experience in big events like this. When looking at the organigrams of WC 2006 and EC 2008, the part of the experienced people has not increased. There are a lot of friends and people someone ows something in it. It´s the same with several bid commitees for future OG´s. Only a few people are really experienced the rest are supernumeraries. If there is no balance between them the negative impact will follow - sooner or later. But thank God these are only short term projects, so they will disappear very soon. For the long term actions they should think about the athlets, officials and spectators. A lot of experienced people who could do the job seems not to be welcomed in these organisations. zenica
Michel Platini is top favorite for presidency of UEFA, and successor of Johansson. arwebb
His bleatings at the 98 World Cup threatened to ruin that tournament overnight and for a couple of days did. zenica
Beckenbauer always says he has no time for his own family and he sees Mr. Niersbach more often than his relatives. It was his own decision to do this job. Why don´t they send any other people from German Football Fed. or UEFA, FIFA to visit these countries. Beckenbauer is always on tour, he should give other people also a chance. He is not the only one who could do this. Platini is waiting

zenica
Gunter Netzer was one of the most famous players in Germany. He also played for Real Madrid. Experts say that he was much better than Beckenbauer. Now he is engaged in tv-rights (Infront) and football expert for the German TV/moderator.
