Guardian
Now that the evaluations are over, it is now a month away from the Torino 2007 Winter Universiade and about the same time, in which the host cities of the 2011 Winter and Summer Universiades are decided. It is pretty clear that it will be the first-time hosting of either candidate nation for the 2011 Winter Universiade, even though Izmir has hosted Turkey's first Universiade (Summer) in 2005. As for the possible hosting of the Summer Universiade: - if Shenzhen wins, it will be China's THIRD Universiade, after the Beijing 2001 Summer and the upcoming Harbin 2009 Winter Universiades; - if Kaohsiung wins, it will be the first one for the "island nation" of Chinese Taipei; - if Murcia wins, it will be Spain's FOURTH Universiade, after the 1999 Palma de Mallorca Summer and the Jaca 1981 & 1995 Winter Universiades; - if Kazan wins, it will be Russia's (former USSR) SECOND Universiade, after Moscow 1973 Summer Universiade; - if Poznan wins, it will be Poland's THIRD Universiade, after Zakopane hosted both the 1993 and 2001 Winter Universiades. wamel042
Let's drop the Universiades and replace them by European Games, so that every continent has it's own Games...... Pan American Games Asian Games All African Games European Games What about Oceania? I never seen, read or heard any coverage of the Universiad and European Games would be a great event, also for the many European cities who are going to bid for the Olympic Games. Perfect testcase!!! Guardian
The veteran host nations have prevailed again. This time, Shenzhen is the host city of the 2011 Summer Universiade. Therefore, China continues on marching with hosting so many international sporting events that starts this year. Also, Erzurum is the host city of the 2011 Winter Universiade. Just like nearly 2 years ago, when Izmir hosted the 2005 Summer Universiade, the nation of Turkey gets its chance to show how winter sports can be hosted this time around. Link: FISU: FISU EC Attributes 2011 Universiades Again, congratulations to both Shenzhen and Erzurum. Especially to Erzurum, which the bid team will have its first look on how the Winter Universiade is supposed to operate on tomorrow (where I am) or today (Torino time zone). Filipe_Golias
Now here's something Portugal could start bidding for. Still, 21 sports and their respective venues would require a considerable investment. The closest thing we have now related to this, is the 2010 Rugby Sevens WUC, in my city, Porto
