I just saw the pictures of the ceremony on the FISU site, and it must have been wonderful. I have a couple of ?'s: Does anyone know where the ceremony can be downloaded, and does Izmir city have websites for its newspapers?

i was looking through the previous posts on this topic and i gotta say that it has to be at least 10 times i seen the 2005 games website address posted!  :D

anyway, eurosport and eurosport 2 is showing coverage of the games and if you live in the pacific or gulf, you can see highlights and results on eurosport news. i have realised by watching the coverage that it's a pretty big event and have worked out this little path of an athlete's career:

01 - under 11 years old - play sport in school

02 - 12-15 years old - compete in international children's games

03 - 17-28 years old - compete in universiade

04 - 25-35 years old (give a take a few years) - compete in the olympics

05 - 35/40 years old plus - retire gracefully

:grinning:

I AM EXTREMELY IMPRESSED with the standard of competition venues and the excellent promotional films some of them really quite good, and the great photos of the opening ceremony welldone and good luck on a fantatstic games, btw those videos of athletes diving into the ocean adn so forth is great, better than some of the olymypic promotional films of some 2012 bid cities....

Thanx Rush for your impressive comments.. I acutally waited for comments of members on this forum..

it is a relief actually to me... cause of the fact.. that this universiade in izmir would be / is going to be .. a strong experience for further bids of Istanbul in the near future.. maybe not 2016.. I think an strong attacking bid for 2020 or 2024 will be more healty.. by the way.. about those promotion films you mentionede.. Turkish experts worked on it;. Turkish made of course  :D  I loved how you wrote it..

at the meantime I will cover a bit about the medal table.. so we can have also a little archive on this forum too..

I will do my best.. I dont want to cover a lot;. cause the internet site on the universiade 2005 gives the fully information..

My turkish friends in turkey are sending me photos taken by their gsm/cellular phone..

these photos hopefully will give another perspective how they enjoyed and experienced it.... socially seen..

I will need your support folx.. and motivation too;. to bring good and (if necessary the negative) things too on this event..about the closing ceremony.. I'm now excited what the Thai delegation prepared ..

love u all.. fatixxx .. greetz from Belgium/Brussels

so far new zealand has wond three medals at the games, they are all silver medals so that is brilliant news. Our best ever performance so far at the world university games.

Wow. Canada really kicked ass here so far. At the 2003 edition, it didn't win this many medals during the whole Games there, if I recall correctly.

As for Japan, I didn't expect them to be in first place so far at this stage of the Universiade.

With that signature you have there, do you think a Summer Universiade in South Africa is possible?

The both 2005 Universiades are now in the history books. We now await the both 2007 Universiades: the winter one in Torino and the summer one in Bangkok.
