fatixxx
source at .. www.universiadeizmir.org Universiade 2005 Izmir Advertisement Campaign is Launched Giant athletes are used as the main theme in the TV commercial produced by Sportsnet. In the commercial film shot by Ömer Faruk Sorak, notable buildings of Izmir turned into sports fields where giant athletes competed. Deserving to be called an Olympic city with its cultural life, citizens and love for sports, the city of Izmir is depicted as an Olympic field. Giant athletes of the future are displaying their skills in Izmir, which has become a huge sports field. Another attractive feature of the film is its music. The rhythmic music created by Ömer Ahunbay will be used in all promotional activities and will become the sound symbol of the Universiade, inviting all of Turkey and the world to Izmir. The importance of Universiade 2005 Izmir, the biggest sports organization within the history of the Turkish Republic, will be conveyed to the public through the comprehensive campaign, which will last all summer. Ömer Faruk Sorak, whom we know from the films G.O.R.A. and Vizontele, shot the film with professional athletes upon a two-month preparation period. The director of photography of the film is also world famous Avi Kaprisch.
fatixxx
The emblem is the letter “U”, inspired by the bird’s-eye view of the Gulf of İzmir. This shape has perfectly fit the letter “U” of Universiade, symbolising its multi-cultural feature, while the smooth outline emphasises the harmony and uniformity of the Universiade spirit. The mascot of the “23rd Universiade 2005, Izmir” is a bird which takes its Latin name from the city of Izmir: the White-breasted Kingfisher (Halycon Smyrnensis), one of the inhabitants of the Izmir Bird Paradise. The name “Efe” of the mascot was selected among the 25,000 suggestions after a name contest held by Tansaş (the main sponsor of Universiade 2005 Izmir). While the Aegean Blue was the source of inspiration of this major sports event to be held in Turkey; the slogan of the 23rd Universiade 2005, Izmir is determined to be the “World in Unison on the Aegean Blue”. Thanks to his ability to live in such varied environments as riversides, land and seashores, he symbolizes the energy and dynamism of the varied sports that will participate in the 23rd Universiade 2005, Izmir, in the very best way. Guardian
Unfortunately, that statement about "preparing future Olympians" can be disputed in many ways. For example, some past and current Olympic athletes participate in the Olympics way before entering university. You see, if I'm right, Universiade athletes can only be in the ages from 18 to 28. However, it will be interesting on how Izmir does in these Games.

Also, I can't wait to see how the Bangkok presentation will be like in the closing ceremony. Like Turkey, Thailand is hosting its first Universiade two years from now. fatixxx
Izmir is transformed into a “Competition Ground” Prior to the Games Sports Equipment of the Giants are Ready… In the scope of the promotion campaign of the 23rd Universiade, 2005, Izmir, giant size models of various sports equipment have been placed at the busy spots of the city. Sportsnet authorities who are responsible for the administration of the campaign stated that the giant size models which are being exhibited at the busy spots of the city are a continuance of the communication campaign which commenced with the promotion film, and that the aim of this work is to attract the attention of the sports fans to the World University Summer Games, and also stressing the point that Izmir is one of the cities that deserve the title “Olympic City” the most. Authorities warned Izmir citizens saying: You can pass under a giant volleyball net when you come out of the Alsancak pier or you can come across a huge tennis ball when you are shopping at the Konak Square. http://www.universiadeizmir.org
