Olympian2004 Posted February 8, 2010 Report Posted February 8, 2010 I am just hoping that these ceremonies do not reflect ripe ole' canadian cheese. Somehow I think it may just be teetring on that with what we have heard already. Yes, I can appreciate that we will have to really consider the lighting and all that but ...... "say it a little louder so the world can hear?" Isn't that a bit quirky even for a chorus to a song? If we would call every song cr*p just based on its lyrics, probably 80 % of the most popular songs ever would have landed in the trash can. And also one should wait for the whole lyrics before judging whether they make sense or not. 1
graymccarty Posted February 8, 2010 Author Report Posted February 8, 2010 Looks like there's pyro on some of the buildings around BC Place. Not unexpected... but still
Ikarus360 Posted February 8, 2010 Report Posted February 8, 2010 Ok for those talking about the pyro effects on buildings near the BC Place, this has nothing to do with the OC, but with a show called Ignite the Dream, as part of the cultural olympiad, which will be held every night from February 12-28. Citizen-Seth Posted February 8, 2010 Report Posted February 8, 2010 Is everyone always this negative before an opening ceremony? Maybe I'm being too Wilsonian about this, but I don't really care about the ceremony. Float some canoes through the air, heck, have a maple syrup fountain for all I care. Attending an Olympic opening ceremony is dream come true for me...I'm really beside myself just to be in the audience.
mr.x Posted February 8, 2010 Report Posted February 8, 2010 Vancouver and its current provincial government has very good relations with the State of California and the Governator.
scielle Posted February 8, 2010 Report Posted February 8, 2010 Vancouver and its current provincial government has very good relations with the State of California and the Governator. Well, given that California's economy alone is larger (by about half a trillion $, if I'm not mistaken) than the GDP of the entire country of Canada, I don't think they have much choice...plus who wants to mess with the Governator?!

graymccarty Posted February 9, 2010 Author Report Posted February 9, 2010 Apparently Ben mulrony and tamara taggert are hosting either the ceremony or the TV broadcast.... not sure
graymccarty Posted February 9, 2010 Author Report Posted February 9, 2010 I don't think those pieces of fabric have been draped, because I don't see them and someone just said the audio is TERRIBLE - can't understand the words coming over the speakers
graymccarty Posted February 9, 2010 Author Report Posted February 9, 2010 Apparently there's an audience countdown and then lots of participation from the audience.... including drums & white t-shirts
graymccarty Posted February 9, 2010 Author Report Posted February 9, 2010 Jully Black is one of the performers
Citizen-Seth Posted February 9, 2010 Report Posted February 9, 2010 SPOLIER http://twitpic.com/1259c9 I wonder if that large hanging oval thing is some kind of video screen like in the new Cowboy's stadium.
graymccarty Posted February 9, 2010 Author Report Posted February 9, 2010 Apparently it's a 360 degree screen (projected from inside)
dave199 Posted February 9, 2010 Report Posted February 9, 2010 I take it that your present in BC Place right now. Thanks for the pics. Keep us posted and take some more pics
graymccarty Posted February 9, 2010 Author Report Posted February 9, 2010 Nope - I'm in Toronto. I'm just a good digger
graymccarty Posted February 9, 2010 Author Report Posted February 9, 2010 Apparently it's terrible - like REALLY bad Also the audience participation thing is sketchy, confusing, and people are like "WTF"?
dave199 Posted February 9, 2010 Report Posted February 9, 2010 Nope - I'm in Toronto. I'm just a good digger Oh ok...I thought we had our own little Gamesbids insider on here...lol
graymccarty Posted February 9, 2010 Author Report Posted February 9, 2010 Black lights will add to the effect of the audience wearing white
Citizen-Seth Posted February 9, 2010 Report Posted February 9, 2010 Apparently it's terrible - like REALLY bad Also the audience participation thing is sketchy, confusing, and people are like "WTF"? From what twitter postings I can find, they're not using the actually props in the audience, just being told what to do.
graymccarty Posted February 9, 2010 Author Report Posted February 9, 2010 They're using some of them - flashlights and drums
dave199 Posted February 9, 2010 Report Posted February 9, 2010 So far it doesn't sound like its that great.
