I wonder who the mystery two are.

Well it is not Europe so could be another African city like Ghana who indicated interest in 2026 following their 2023 African Games. Another option if Singpaore or Malaysia who didn't bid for 2026 due to the short turnaround.

I hope Canada get 2030 given they hosted the inaugural Games back in 1930. Then I would have New Zealand hosting 2034 (can see the CGF going India though for either of those Games) before returning back to Europe for 2038 (possibly a Welsh bid). Australia won't host again until at least 2042.

WA Liberal Leader and former Perth Lord Mayor and former TV personality Basil Zempilas calls for Perth to host the 2030 Commonwealth Games. Australia will be able to host it after the 2032 Brisbane Olympic Games most likely in 2038 in Perth which would be the frontrunner should there be an Australian bid.

None of these give good vibes to be honest.

India had the disaster of 2010, Canada and NZ have pulled out of bidding many times before. Nigeria, well enough said and South Africa.... Durban anyone?

India needs to forego the giganticism of 2010 and keep a tight reign on contracts etc but there's no reason why they couldn't be a successful host. South Africa needs to make sure it has government on board if it's to bid again, but again I don't see why it couldn't be successful. The farce of Durban wasn't to do with SA's capability it was an irresponsible "we don't have government support yet, but it'll all be fine" attitude from the bid and the CGF. A proper SA bid could be interesting.

I suppose with Canada it's always a question of whether they'll push on (and if there's the interest), and I don't know about New Zealand's capability - Alex always seems doubtful when he posts here which surprises me. Nigeria I'd be nervous of, not least from a security stand point.

It feels like things are in a bit of a healthier place than they were a few years ago. Which potential host would give "good vibes" for you?

India needs to host a major sporting event for its Olympic bid to gain traction with groups more skeptical about its ability to host.

India basically has two options on the table: the Commonwealth Games or the Youth Olympics.

Of the two options, the “Old Commonwealth Games” are much larger in scale and would have a positive impact.

I imagine Modi and his Olympic aspirations would work to ensure a successful hosting of the Commonwealth Games, which would be a powerful card to play.

My favorite bid has always been Canada, but hosting such a geographically spread out bid frustrates me.

Nigeria is very complex, and the risk of social unrest and security is very high in the country.

New Zealand would be great, but I see little appetite for it.

South Africa does not seem keen, and its economic and political problems seem significant at the moment for the government to prioritize this.

Very surprised at that I must say. I thought Canada, especially Ontario with Ford, would be certain to go for this - given that the Pan Ams were held in Toronto to give it venues, I'd have thought a Commonwealth Games would be an easy, low hassle way to assert Canadian identity now & over the next few years. Shame :(

Its a bizarre decision for sure. My only guess is because Hamilton was spearheading it, and the current mayor Hamilton used to be political rivals with Ford.

From what I understood, Hamilton, Toronto, York Region were to play a huge part, and were scheduled to propose 12-15 sports, which in its on right could have hosted by itself.

India wanting to host a "Super Games" as yet another exercise in proving to the World they are the next rising superpower and potential Olympic host will probably end the CWGs as we know them, once and for all.

We all know Glasgow 26 is an extreme minimalist Games...But should be setting the example of what the future should look like.

2030/34...If they happen, needs to be within the hosting reach of the top ten medalling nations at the CWGs. Also the country of the city that wishes to host needs to be heavily involved. This is where Australia, already overcommitted to 2032, and to some extent CWG hosting fatigue, fell over...It really was someone else's turn to host.

The idea for 12 core events, pretty much ditching Olympic team sports - Rugby7s, Lawn Hockey, 20/20 Cricket, and Basketball would help lower costs, but would the Games appeal to the "click and collect" generations after such a drastic cut?

Hosts for the Future in a more realistic sized games could finally see a South Africa or Ghana city hosting? A return to Canada in 2030 would've be great but as mentioned, all of Canada needs to "chip in".

The preliminary report into New Zealand being a nationwide host in 2034 came back and has been zipped up by the current government without consultation as a no-go...It is believed to have been in favour of a smaller that what was originally proposed event, and not totally nationwide. It did favour an Auckland centric CWGs with Hamilton, Rotorua and Tauranga hosting events within core-sports programs. It also made mention of Christchurch as a sole host of a more traditional 10 Sport event and suit a 60 year since last hosting. (Christchurch has now been put forward as a host of the Indoor Track and Field Games up towards the 2032 Olympics)

Either way if we get past 2030, the CWGs are going to look so different.

Far better than no Games. Interesting India wants to restore the Games to its "full size". I guess if it's going to be a springboard for an Olympic bid they'll want to host a bigger event.

Maybe, if the Games are to survive medium to long term, it's not a question of them being permanently downsized, but more a question of the CGF being subject to the whims of whoever wants to host and why it is they want to host. So might we bounce between bigger and smaller Games cycle to cycle?

I can see CS awarding two CWG hosts

2030 - Ahmedabad

2034 - Abuja

What it will mean is after Glasgow next year I won’t be attending a Commonwealth Games until at least 2038. No way I will be going to India or Nigeria…
