KRATK
As you might know, this year is the second time the Dakar Rally is being hosted in Argentina and Chile, instead of Africa after the 2008 edition was suspended for some terrorist attacks in Mauritania. This year, the route started in Buenos Aires and crossed the north of Argentina towards the Andes mountains. After crossing the mountains, the Rally entered in the Atacama Desert in Northern Chile and now is going south to Santiago and then will cross the Pampas region in Argentina to finally end in Buenos Aires again. Some pictures of the rally at this moment are available in http://www.boston.com/bigpicture/2010/01/d...rally_2010.html The start in Buenos Aires, with more than 800,000 spectators next to the Obelisk. So, here's the debate... What do you think about the Dakar Rally now that is in South America? Should it change the name? Should it return to Northern Africa or should be hosted by other places? I've heard East Africa (Kenya and Tanzania I guess) and ARG-CHI are bidding for 2011. I'm not an expert about this sport, but I've heard the organization is really happy with the involvement of both governments and the citizens of both countries, and also that the stage of the rally is every year more difficult and more exciting... but that's what I've heard here in Chile...
