Vancouver "look Of The Games" Pics

Recommended Posts

Hi folks,

I thought I'd start a topic revolving around the transformation of Vancouver for the games, since it's getting close. If anyone has pictures or is able to take pictures of various aspects of the city that have been 'transformed' for the games, post them here! It's really neat to see how the city & the Olympic venues evolve in this exciting time.

I'll start us off.

A flurry of decals will be installed beginning on Monday...it'll finally look like an Olympic city.

Awesome! Thanks! If you're able to grab some photos after Monday that would be SWELL.

Thank you for showing me the flags and banners. Is it okay if I see pictograms, too please. I would like to see country flags like Sweden, Germany, and Australia? Is there a sign that says "Olympic Village" on it?

Sorry about the double reply, I was correcting my mistake and send the same thing by mistake.

It's very busy, but the colors restrain it all.

It's very, very nice. Really fits Vancouver.

It's definitely a more complex graphic look than we've seen in previous games. Limiting the palette keeps it from becoming too busy. Unfortunately the cool colors don't have a whole lot of energy. It's an attractive, serene look, but very restrained. It doesn't feel exciting or celebratory.

(Of course that graphic wouldn't make any sense in orange and magenta...)

I suppose they didn't want to be all over the place with the color.

Most past Games had lots of color, but when it came to important shots inside venues, the color was kept to cooler blues for telegenic practicality (blue looks best on camera). True for Sydney, Athens, and Beijing. Salt Lake and Torino used more warm tones, but it obviously suited them (Utah desert, Italian passion)

Also, keeping it cool has allowed Vancouver to be able to put some much literal detail into that core graphic. All kinds of things are in there. Fish nets, wood grain, condo glass, concrete, clouds, rain, foliage... all very Vancouver to me. In this sense, Vancouver's Look is very straightforward in representation, as opposed to most past Games that have been very abstract

I agree that the cool colors make complete sense for Vancouver and for the graphic identity they've chosen. They are very calm and serene, though. Not adrenaline pumping -- something I usually associate with the Games.
