Tyler Christopher and Gary Reed have outside chances of getting a medal in the 400 and 800 respectivly.  Perdita's obviously got the best shot, but I don't really think she'll be able to beat Hayes or Perry.  The 2 Jamaicans also looked really good in heats today.  She's got a shot at a medal, but in no way is it a sure thing.

Others like Mark Boswell, Carmen Douma-Hussar, Dana Ellis, and Charles Allen could easily come top 10, but top 3 is pretty unlikely.

Scott Russel I guess has an outside shot too in the Javelin.  He threw a 79.45 today.  He threw an 84.41 a few weeks ago.  If he can have another one like that he might be able to sneak in for 3rd.

Poor Perdita, she has the worst luck. I felt so terrible for her when she tripped over the hurdle in Athens (where she was expected to win Gold) and now she fails to qualify for the finals here. The weather conditions were bad in Helsinki but any athlete has to be prepared for bad weather.  Hopefully she will reflect on her mediocre season and come back with a vengence next track season.

Mexico won the first medal this afternoon: a bronze by Ana Guevara, who finally showed that she has not resigned at all podiums in future competitions´; she's just injured and not in her best shape, but still managed to do an awesome race in the last 200m.

You are probably right, but for the German athletes the next year is very important. As you can see at the medals table the German athletes are very weak on the global stage. So we have to win your medals here on European level at the E-Ch next year in Sweden.

Sorry I had to giggle at this - we feel the same way.  We are not having a great Championship at the moment (although we are hoping is is going to get a little better with at least 1 medal in the marathon - although nothing is guaranteed!)  :laughlong:

We have at least, heard the British anthem when David Weir won the Wheelchair sprint title, even though it was a demonstration event!  It may be the only time we hear our national anthemn... :shocked:

So China (and the last 2 Summer Olympic hosts - Australia and Greece AND Great Britain) aren't even on the list yet.  Interesting.  

I guess there'll be many empty seats at the Bird's Nest 3 Augusts from now!

It's been pretty shocking so far for us. Hopefully the issues surrounding British athletics will now, at last, be addressed.
