danfla 5
to wake up this forum i think we, brazilians, should introduce our country and culture to the foreigners with topics like this, and others like brazilian sport, brazilian art and etc. Im not a music lover, but i have to agree that brazilian music is the most important part of our culture, with samba, bossa-nova, MPB, choro, pagode, funk, axe, sertanejo, rock, rap, and many others. So i will start with samba and some cool videos. There are many kinds of samba, im not an expert, so i just know a few, samba de raiz, samba de breque, samba-enredo, pagode, samba canção, if there is any expert plz explain better for us. Some nice and very famous singers of samba in Brasil João Gilberto and Caetano Tom Jobim, Vinicius e Toquinho Zeca Pagodinho Martinho da Vila Caetano Veloso singing Noel Rosa music João Nogueira Bezerra da Silva http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VHJLyllUzAY Alcione
ken 0
Cool. Here's my Brazilian Youtube playlist: (I can't give descriptions though) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2j8u8UvR76o http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9BYCBI4ym6w& http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xgblpF1OmPg http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Mmu0WjOR7g http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JzFt7A34e0M& http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2eomEoNO4qc& Maybe someone could say something about these songs and, who knows, suggest more good stuff [Happy Holidays, everyone]
danfla 5
I found a BBC documentary about brazilian music "Samba to Bossa", is not a great documentary, but is nice one. There are only the story of samba and bossa, and they forgot very important icons of brazilian music but would be impossible to have all anyway. There are 7 parts First one http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JF0DTzkpsHo
DannyelBrazil 703
My contribution to this thread, an amazing interpretation of 'Aquarela do Brasil' (in USA this song is known as 'Brazil' only) performed by Daniela Mercury at TV Globo in 2008. http://video.globo.com/Videos/Player/Entre...+BRASIL,00.html Enjoy!
DannyelBrazil 703
ah, about the credits on the end of the video, it's because this song was the last on in this special, so the credits started in the end of the music... (I hate this old fashioned credits Globo uses, but, what can we do?)

I have been listening to Brazilian music for some time but I never really came across such cool collection. Your link doesn't work - but just as well. It looks like it could be construed as spam.

Indeed, did you see the Big Mac woman (Mulher X-tudão)??? A girl with 210 Kilos that is dancer for MC Serginho? I'm not really sure about how to react to this news, man! I think this trend should end already! XD Have you heard about Provolone Woman? She's named after the appearence of her legs after she ties up her gladiator boots. She ties them really REALLY tight. Now, if you guys excuse me, I just bought the Original Brazilian Cast Recording (OBzCR? XD) of Spring Awakening (which, as I've pointed befored, was sponsored by Rio 2016)and I intend to spend the next hour enjoying its awesomeness
lucas_leobas 6
First of all, Sir Roltel seemed to have REALLY liked Watermelon Woman and all the rest of the fruit women. I love how we are getting bizarre versions of it: I just googled Mulher-Xtudão and wow! Great translation, Danny, by the way. Big Mac Woman sounds awesome . But I have bad news: Fruit women is very 2008 right now. Créu had a little revival in October with the whole "Yes we créu" fad, but now it's pretty much gone. "Watermelon Woman", however, is an expression that has gone into our pop culture and I'm pretty sure it'll be remembered for a whole generation, just like "Bootylicious" in America. I haven't been to the beach this summer to capture what are our lattest summer fads. Not that we need to be in the summer to go to the beach But I'll tell you guys as soon as I do it. Victor Mata 272
Where are the megalomaniac pernambucanos who didn't posted frevo yet?? Here's a little sample of truly good carnaval music :
DannyelBrazil 703
At least the pernambucanos have its original and local way to celebrate their carnaval!!! I love the different way of carnaval celebrations Brazil-wide...
Victor Mata 272
Sure they have. Maybe the most original carnaval rhythm since Frevo was actually born in Olinda/Recife. Quite dancing IMO. I guess what makes Carnaval in Pernambuco (and Bahia) so interesting is that it's still a celebration of people. And free of charge Rio's sadly lost part of its magic with so many celebrities and commerce involved. Sometimes it doesn't feel spontaneous, which is a pity. Still beautiful though... I agree and disagree... The commercial side of carnaval is sometimes disguting... But, any big/huge event should go commercial to be profitable and to get known internationally. But I think there are two sides of the Samba Schools parade... The celebrities/advertising/TV side and the favelas/samba schools itself one... The magic is in the parade itself, I think this still have magic and it is the beautiful side of Rio's carnaval. There are tradition, history and passion on it... Yet...
