Ikarus360
Thank you, based Payet. France won today but they stil left some doubts. Then again the only goal Romania did was thanks to a stupid diving.

yoshi
Well that looked hopeful for Romania for a few minutes in each half. Can't complain about losing to that goal though.
Durban Sandshark
ZDF EURO 2016 promo utilizing a budding love encounter, possibly a French girl and a German guy, at a soccer stadium with scenes at a match using French words and standard French music Sweden's TV4 EURO 2016 promo. Please help me find out the French song that's sung/lip-synched to the tune a kids' song (think Where is...Here I come") the young Swedes are rallying around the national team with its blue and white and playing some soccer under the #viarsverige, a play of we are Sverige:
Durban Sandshark
TF1 France presents in its promo here the general overview of its Euro 2016 coverage portion that includes many of hosts Les Bleues' matches like the opening match with Romania and Opening Ceremony and the notable star power from the other European nations involved. Apparently, TF1's not doing the Final at Stade De France even if France makes it there, as I predict Top class BBC Sport promo for Euro 2016 for TV, online/mobile, and radio. And I really mean top class with the BBC Sport soccer team with Gary Lineaker, Rio Ferdinand, Alan Shearer and many other personalities are at lavish French palace set to resemble the 18-19th Century France with all the costumes and artifacts except for the EURO 2016 refernces set like it's War and Peace with the Liberte, Egalite, and Foote. The BBC has done it again:

Ikarus360
Ouch. I didn't expected that draw in the end. Though England still has lots of chances, though. Btw congratulations to Wales on their sucessful debut in the Euro. I hope you guys give us more nice surprises like today. PS: How come every trailer/ad BBC does of a sport event is almost always better than the official ones?
arwebb
England played better last night than in any tournament fixture for many, many years last night. That Russian equaliser was nothing short of theft.

Olympian2004
What a nice start for Germany! It sure was a tough fight with some weaknesses in defence and in seizing scoring opportunities, but the Ukraine defence made life extremely difficult for them, too. All in all, the Germans showed the dominance one would expect from a world-class team and it surely was a much more decent performance than in most of their qualifier and friendly matches since their World Cup victory. Schweinsteiger now is the hero of all already-greyish 30-somethings (and that includes me ) and Boateng now is the hero of the goal line, with an artistic performance that could earn him a gold medal if he took part in the gymnastics competition in Rio. ;-) Yes, you see a very happy Olympian2004 - and I must admit that I was optimistic before this match and am still optimistic after this match that Germany stands a very good chance of winning the European championship as well. Indeed. And I'm very pleased that the likes of Gauland & co. got one right in their faces tonight. Mstafi could have been my neighbour almost even, we come from the same rural part of Germany, just 20km from my to his hometown :-)
Olympian2004
Very true, Stefan. I guess we have to explain to our international friends what we mean with Gauland, though: A leading politician of the right-wing populist German party AfD, Alexander Gauland, recently gave a newspaper interview where he claimed that many people like (black) German defender Jerome Boateng as a footballer, but wouldn't like him if he was their neighbour. That caused quite an outrage in the German public and many gestures of solidarity towards Boateng and the German football team (and one must say that it was particularly stupid from Gauland to attack a member of the national football team, shortly before a major tournament, in football-crazy Germany). Since then, many Germans say that they would much prefer Jerome Boateng over Alexander Gauland as their neighbour. And yes, I was particularly proud and pleased that two players with migration background played such a massive role in Germany's victory tonight. There couldn't have been any clearer message to those stupid a**holes in Germany who are currently trying to destroy our country's good reputation (especially after the 2006 World Cup) by saying racist and discriminatory nonsense and getting appallingly much applause from at least parts of the German society. This development has to be stopped, and the performance of our national team could play a considerable role in that, at least for the moment.
arwebb
It seems to me that we are seeing a surge in behaviour that most fair-minded people would find utterly distasteful. One only needs to look at what's been going on in Marseille, and to a lesser extent Lille and Nice, over the last few days to see evidence of that. But, as much as that conduct is abhorrent, it does raise important questions about the competence, or otherwise of those in authority. To see Russian fans charging their English counterparts on Saturday night doesn't just suggest that security arrangements within the stadium were woefully inadequate. It also raises serious concerns, in my mind, about what awaits us when the World Cup is played in Russia two years from now. Similarly, the clashes reported in Lille and Nice suggest a wider problem, which it is to be hoped the proposed alcohol ban in certain areas will address. But it shouldn't have needed several days like this to make that happen. In making these points, I am not seeking, in any way, to condone or excuse the behaviour of any individual, of any nationality, involved in these disturbances. But history tells us that if we do not question those in authority about how they go about their business, they will make similar mistakes again. While I understand their reasons, it is not good enough, in my view, for UEFA to threaten disqualification of particular nations when it has neither examined or addressed its own errors. Rob2012
Well, the situation in the Stade Velodrome was an appalling lapse of security. They're only lucky it was Russians with fireworks and not something worse. And where were the stewards and/or police? And the disqualification threat is understandable but curious at the same time. It can't have been purely about what happened in the stadium as that was Russians charging into the English fans (why warn the FA when their fans were the ones being attacked?). So it must be to do with what happened in the streets, in which case, why wasn't the French FA warned also? Not that any of that excuses any of our idiots of course. Edited June 13, 2016 by Rob. yoshi
Unfortunately, as long as there is that tiny minority of our fans (& others - there was a small bit of trouble with a few German fans in Lille last night) who consider a football tournament as nothing more than a chance to go abroad & neck pints for 12 hours straight, there's gonna be these problems. Mix it with groups of Russian fans who do seem to have come for a fight (I've seen reports that some were armed with MMA gloves - not an essential item for supporting a team) & add in local ultras, notorious ones in Marseille, plus an understandably tetchy police force, it's a toxic mix. The Irish Times writer makes a good point about how these kinds of 'fans' don't consider the city & country they're in. What will be interesting is Thursday when England play Wales, to see a) what happens when the England fans aren't around Russian ones & Marseille ultras, & what effect the alcohol ban Lens will have in operation has on fan behaviour. Rob2012
150 Russians 'trained to fight' involved in Marseille violence 150 Russians who were "trained to fight" were involved in the worst of the fan violence that erupted in Marseille during the Euro 2016 tournament, the French city's chief prosecutor has said. http://www.itv.com/news/story/2016-06-13/officials-150-russians-trained-to-fight-involved-in-marseille-violence/ Yet amazingly, zero Russian arrests.
Rob2012
A top football official in Moscow has praised the Russian fans involved in violence over the weekend in Marseille, saying they had defended their country’s honour and should be forgiven. “I don’t see anything wrong with the fans fighting,” Igor Lebedev wrote on Twitter. “Quite the opposite, well done lads, keep it up!” Lebedev, who sits on the executive committee of the Russian football union, is an MP from the nationalist Liberal Democratic party and the deputy chairman of the Russian parliament. https://www.theguardian.com/football/2016/jun/13/moscow-football-official-to-violent-fans-well-done-lads-keep-it-up?CMP=share_btn_tw
