Rio 2016 Winner!

Fatix's Sochi logo was ok (the lettering of the logo wasn't good and the lettering in this kind of logo is 50% of the job).

I liked the way Fatix made his campaign with a youtube video, but in an average, only the winner logo was really good, indeed, better than my proposal on this comp and, for me, much better than the official sochi.ru logo.

About Rio comp

rio2016f.jpg

Option A - It's an interesting logo, indeed, very creative, but for me it seems it can represent any coastal city...

Option B - Some friends called this logo "Christ smoking marijuana". I like some things on this, but in a quick research of Brazilian design, you will see that serif fonts are not spread used in Brazilian logos. The line doesn't fit the mountains curves of Rio, indeed, Corcovado is the top mountain in Rio and the line goes higher... And, of course, Christ is a religious symbol, indeed, its design is copyrighted to the Archbishop House of Rio, so, it's very unlike to use it in a Olympic logo. A logo full of lack of research.

Option C - Mine one... Which means, for me, it's perfect! LOL Not quite. The "toothpaste" comment shows that the link on Sugar Loaf was not 100% clear. For me, the red colour is missing here and probably Rio 2016 would be better than Rio de Janeiro 2016. But I made it in ten minutes... So...

Option D - Amazing logo. My favourite after mine one. You see Rio on it in the first moment. Love the colours and the simplicity of the drawings. The serif font is not too obvious here.

Option E - Amazing logo too, but for some Amazon city hosting an event. This piece on the head is very common among Amazon indigenous tribes of Brazil. In Rio carnaval they use this kind of "hat" for represent the indians...

well duh. the allusion to carnaval was almost certainly intentional and well played. any non-brazilian would automatically jump to the double meaning.

it was clever, festive and should have kicked the **** out of your toothpase logo, which was polished and "cool" but lacked substance. a distant second, tbh.

It's not 100% clear mensage too, Krow... When we talk about a logo, we should be sure about all the meaning it will have. And the option E is more Amazon than Rio. This kind of festive hat is not Rio de Janeiro typical. Period. It is almost a clear representation of the Amazon Paritins festival.

But no doubts, the logo is really amazing, as TNMP said before the comp was very high-level, and, of course, you have your preferences, and I have mine ones.

And for me the `indian`logo is in a distant third place.

Other thing I can say...

The foot logo (which for me, it's an amazing drawing and usage of colours) shows a left foot.

For Brazilians left foot means bad lucky...

Probably you don't know much about Rio de Janeiro... Many things are represented in this logo...

That's all fair enough.

I'm pleased so many people are defending my "carnival" logo (I really didn't spend that long designing it), but if you, as a Brazilian, think it's a bit off the mark for Rio 2016 I'm happy to take that criticism on board. I was thinking as I was making it that it'd be obvious it was made by an outsider, so I'm not surprised that I didn't get it quite right to be honest.

Who designed the foot one? I thought it was a nice idea, but wasn't quite sure about the execution (it "smelt" like a foot, as well as looking like a footprint, sorry). It's interesting that the left-foot indicates bad luck in Brazil, and again, that's something you'd only know if you were Brazilian. I can only assume an exception was made for this:

In all, though I didn't vote for the toothpaste one in any rounds, I think it's good a Brazilian logo won this comp.

it is my fault that I've been misunderstood. Firstly my excuses for that.

It isn't about the case that I didn't win in this comp. Actually I'm very very very happy that I have been a part of this. The thing was that that I was not happy with the outcome of this comp refering to the voting system. Only wingspread referred to this point that I wanted to reach everyone who was involved in this comp ( as candidate or voter)

As for dannyel .. you have always an explanation for every single sentence .. but that's not how I am .. I'm getting tyerd of it .. You said several times that you didn't have the experience to design something for an Olympic Winter Bid. But you could done some research too as you say that I needed research for the mountain-skyline for Rio. This is a really first class contra-diction. I did my best .. and did my research .. So you had only the lack of doing yourself and this doesn't give you the right to make a statement like that. You HAD the possibility to design a sochi-logo .. It is easy to make statments but be aware that there can be hole in it.

I am not telling this to hurt anyone. But As for Danyel He is a very good guy as I have an idea of his sentences .. But sportive .. in no way. :(

To cut whole the thing of .. NOW .. For the last time : I am happy with the winners .. But this is the second time I FOR ME at GB that I am the lost duck in the lobbying-thing. I mean .. guys you wrote yourself about all the tsunami sign-in's of those newbies .. You have to understand me too as some of you experienced this a dozen times .. that the voting thing lacks tranparancy, clearness and fairness ..

And it is THIS POINT that doesn't made me happy .. :(

I made a proposal for 3 times in a ( consequetive ) row that, we have the possibility in our own hands the level-up the quality of those comps. Because we already reach a high level about the quality side of those sort of comps.

Let us give now all the hands together to make work of this proposal .. This would certainly will be more sustainable to the near-future as it lacks a lot of un-fairness now. So where are all the newbies ?? Why don't they participate in thos comps ?? But if it's voting time than we are doing that lobby-thing ..

GAMESBIS FORUMS ARE A CHANCE WE HAVE .. LET US GIVE IT A TRY .. Before we lose our passion and desire to design-olympic .. Please !!!

Best regards

from Belgium

fatixxx

Note: I can work out a proposal .. a system/rulement for whole the comps .. let us start a committee .. I want to be a part of that .. ??

And this proposal is too all rooted members as for all the newbies .. let us see who is ready for this .. so we can eliminate the spoiling-side of those comps !!

RobH, as I said that days and I'm saying now. Your logo is great. The idea is clever. And I know we are not fighting here in a pro-way (I speak for myself, since if it was in professional way, I should take more than 20-30 minutes on making my proposals).

At that I only showed my concerns about the usage of Christ, that is REALLY unlike and about copy and paste of Internet material, since this was a comp on creativity.

Again, as I said many times here: Your logo is great. I liked it a lot It's full-Brazilian! but it's more Amazon than Rio, which, it's not a problem, since it's not a pro contest, and I'm just pointing this AFTER the end of the comp.

You did great job. But, it's my third fav here, after mine one and Caue's.

Fatix,

I have my opinions as you have yours. So all of us, here on GB, have explanations to everything... It's a forum made by opinions!

About my Sochi logo. My research was based on things about winter. I got snowflakes in many previous official Olympic logos. Indeed, your logo have snowflakes.

According to the ER of this comp, my logo was not shortlistend because the usage of the snowflakes was not in-synch with the "bobslead" thing. Ok, I agree with ER, it's true, the snowflakes was "a little bit distracting".

But I didn't put something on my logo that is controversial, just for example, putting a religious symbol in a logo.

My logo was reproved based on how it looks like not on lack of research.

And I'm very happy with my logo, and very happy with the winner, that is better than mine (I SAID THIS WHEN DEMETRIUS SHOWED HIS LOGO AT THAT TIME).

I'm very happy on being part of this comp, like you, Fatix.

But at the same time, I'm sad because the prejudice against Brazilians is still a mood for some here in GB... I don't remember of seeing other candidates logos placed on s***...

And I support your idea of a Comp Comittee. Indeed, I don't want to make part of it, just join the comps.

Robh, back to you.

About the foot/footprint logo. It's another great idea a very creative idea.

The Brazilian things I pointed here, I made AFTER the comp. It's only my opinion and I wanted to show it here.

The Brazilian left-foot-thing is about famous sentences in Brazil like: when you are having a bad day you say "I wake up and put my left thing first on floor" or when you are not getting success on something you say "I started this with my left foot".

But, for soccer, we love players that uses left foot for scoring, of course. =]
