Faster Posted December 9, 2009 Report Posted December 9, 2009 I'm all for Mr. Cummings...if this were the "focking" 1964 Innsbruck Winter Games!! c'mon man, get real. you actually think he's a selling point for the V.C.? this guy could've played for mother teresa, but it doesn't make him a good headliner for the 2010 olympic games.i'm just glad VANOC didn't choose your ipod to inspire them during these meetings. I said nothing about appropriateness, just that he isn't the irrelevant person you made him out to be. If you have seen Cummings perform you would appreciate his musical talent and skill, though judging by your posts you are probably no more then 16 and listen to bullsh!t billboard hot 100 crap that the music industry shoves down your throat.
memorabilia Posted December 9, 2009 Report Posted December 9, 2009 Je prie pour que ce ne soit pas Céline Dion Je prie pour Natasha Saint-Pier... j'suis tombé en amour depuis longtemps avec elle !!!
mr.x Posted December 9, 2009 Report Posted December 9, 2009 How dose the budget for the ceremonies compare with Torino? Maybe with enough money they can pull it off. $18-million for Vancouver, for both Whistler and Vancouver Victory Ceremonies.
Faster Posted December 9, 2009 Report Posted December 9, 2009 If any of you were expecting anything spectacular you were delusional. The budget is poor and the other three performances have been typically low-budget Canadian/aboriginal crap.
mr.x Posted December 9, 2009 Report Posted December 9, 2009 So, if this is what $18-million buys what does $40-million buy for the Opening/Closing Ceremonies?
cormiermax Posted December 9, 2009 Report Posted December 9, 2009 Nothing much I guess... Probably an aboriginal signer who sounds like a dieing animal and a couple bollywood dancers...
jawnbc Posted December 9, 2009 Author Report Posted December 9, 2009 Bonne idée, mais elle est plus populaire en Europe, non? Je prie pour Natasha Saint-Pier... j'suis tombé en amour depuis longtemps avec elle !!!
canucks4ever Posted December 9, 2009 Report Posted December 9, 2009 Well, I have tickets to Nelly Furtado and Billy Talent....definitely won't be buying more Victory tix.Who is Billy Talent??? What the hel! were they thinking? I'm a little concerned about the opening/closing ceremonies at this point. Cannot believe you dont know Billy talent... go on you tube.... and you will see billy will rock on the stage... seriously........!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! try river below the ex (my favorite) nothing to loose (second favorite) this is how it goes some of my personal favorite (but billy have three albums you might have different favorites than mine). Billy is quite popular in the range 25-34 in quebec the fit perfectly with celebration like it or not....

All consideration those might not be the best choice....since their are from their first popular music a few years ago ... the music making them famous... you should watch instead a live show on you tube you will see why they are one of the best band ever in the kind of music they are playing. Everybody I know would kill to see them lives.
go time baby Posted December 9, 2009 Report Posted December 9, 2009 No, what you did say "Faster" was that "It would have been great if Randy Bachman performed with Cummings on that night but it seems unlikely". Implying quite clearly that you feel these guys should perform together for the V.C. You must think it's "appropriate" if you feel it "would have been great"...no? And I actually do appreciate billboard hot 100 crap, no denying that here brother! funnily enough, i also appreciate much of the other artists that you mentioned. i like to think that i'm not so high on my horse that i shiver at anything that isn't obscure. and this "bullsh!t billboard" music that you're too good for...looks like you tasted some of that same industry crap as well- avril, sum 41, nickelback, etc...all those groups/singers you mentioned have all made the billboard 100 . how's that crap tasting these days Faster? hmm, i gather from your lack of wit and vocabulary that struggles to advance past "focking" "bullsh!t" "crap", that truly i am conversing with nothing more than a sensitive and insecure imbecile come strong or don't come at all son.
4gamesandcounting Posted December 9, 2009 Report Posted December 9, 2009 I really hope the OC is good now having seen this list. Better be worth the money....
thatsnotmypuppy Posted December 9, 2009 Report Posted December 9, 2009 I'd like to know the logic behind the shoices. Surely groups or singers who are not at their peak - ahem Alanis - would see the global publicity these gigs will bring as a good thing? As I previously said - nearly all the major markets use a bit of the victory ceremonies concerts at the end of telecasts, before ads and stuff. Surely playing in front of 38,000 live and potentially millions worldwide would be enough to stoke some financial interest if not patriotic interest. I doubt any of the musical acts are getting paid much if anything anyhow. Hel l - spruik your tshirts outside if you have to.
olympian Posted January 10, 2010 Report Posted January 10, 2010 LET IT ROCK: National anthems won't be the only music heard at the Vancouver Games.Nelly Furtado, The Fray, Barenaked Ladies, Estelle, Theory of a Deadman and Usher are among the headliners for concerts that will be part of the nightly victory ceremonies in Vancouver and Whistler. The day's medal winners will be honored at the ceremonies, which also will include video highlights of the athletes' performances. Tickets for the Whistler ceremonies are limited to local residents, and are being distributed through a contest that began Monday. But the medal presentations will be televised, and the concerts on Feb. 13 (All American Rejects), Feb. 22 (to be announced) and Feb. 27 (Usher) will be broadcast live. Tickets for the Vancouver ceremonies, which will be held at BC Place, are available at www.vancouver2010.com, Web site for the Vancouver Olympics. Source: CNNSI
Chateau Petrus Posted January 10, 2010 Report Posted January 10, 2010 Still no news who will be the artist on February 15th at BC Place ?
Kenadian Posted January 10, 2010 Report Posted January 10, 2010 Natasha St-Pier is from New Brunswick and that province has chosen not to participate in the Victory Ceremonies...although I guess she could be the Quebec night performer? Then again, Stereophonics aren't from Nunavut or Yukon or which ever territory is sponsoring it. And why no Quebec performer yet? Are they keeping it a big secret or have they had a hard time finding someone? Where's Mitsou when you need her? Honestly, though, I think Whister has the better performers. But they no doubt saved the best for the Opening Ceremony. While some big names will want big bucks for a show like that, most will see it as a huge ego boost, a once-in-a-lifetime chance and a massive global marketing opportunity.

Vanoc sure doesnt have problem, over 15 singers from the province are going to the plaza de la francophonie..... And they are trying to stole the show... In Quebec they are saying they will show Vancouver how to party (they are not saying this in a bad way.... just meaning they are happy to be in Vancouver and they are going to rock the stage). Who knows... maybe they want to put celine dion as a secrets for the victory ceremony... Maybe she wont perform at the opening ceremonies, who knows! Anything can happen! But since nathasha st pier lives also in quebec she could be a great representative for the victory ceremony. Or who knows maybe simple plan could be a gr8 idea, they are from Montréal, quebec.
memorabilia Posted January 16, 2010 Report Posted January 16, 2010 (edited) I received an information from Quebec Tourism Service today : http://www.mcccf.gouv.qc.ca/fileadmin/docu...urneeQc2010.pdf (sorry only in French). Apparently they are planning for the Victory Ceremony a bunch of several artists or group !!!! o Étienne Dupuis o Elisapie Isaac o Karkwa o Les 7 doigts de la main o Marie-Mai o Mes Aïeux o Moment Factory Disappointing when you know that they get a few minute later an artist as Garou at the "Place de la Francophonie" Quick translation : The spectacle, lasting 30 minutes, will be held February the 15th at BC Place. It will precede the ceremony medals this evening. The show will feature ten artists as well as the Quebec troupe "Les 7 doigts de la main", under the artistic direction of Ms. Geneviève Dorion-Coupal andmusical direction of Jean Louis Cormier from group Karkwa. The concept will focus again on youth as a vehicle for our collective identity and celebrate cultural diversity, artistic vitality and distinctiveness of Quebec. Each musical performance will be combined with multimedia content from Moment Factory and will be presented without interruption. The artists cover a wide range of Quebec's repertoire and they will also perform well known songs in addition to their original material. Edited January 16, 2010 by memorabilia

Chateau Petrus Posted January 16, 2010 Report Posted January 16, 2010 That is disappointing I agree I was happy when I learned that the tickets I bought was for the Quebec night. Now, I will try to get rid of it. I only know two names on that list (and I'm from Quebec). The five others, I never heard about them. Disappointing, yes when we compare with the greats names who will perform at the Place de la Francophonie at Granville Island : Pierre Lapointe, Les Trois Accords, Robert Charlebois, Garou, Les Cowboys Fringants, Éric Lapointe, just to name a few.
4gamesandcounting Posted January 16, 2010 Report Posted January 16, 2010 Are these acts now confirmed?
