DannyelBrazil Posted January 22, 2010 Report Posted January 22, 2010 I hope the 2019 Panam games go to Lima, it would be a nice form to celebrate the 200 years of independence (well , it happened 1921 really) And the 2019's maybe will have the biggest numbr of candidate cities, so it'll be hard for sure. I think 2019 it will be time to bring the games back to South America. Perfect time for this.
cslopes54 Posted January 25, 2010 Report Posted January 25, 2010 I think Montevideo, Uruguay would be perfect for the '19Games. "According to Transparency International, Uruguay is rated as the least corrupt country in Latin America (along with Chile),[6] with its political and labor conditions being among the freest on the continent." "Uruguay is one of the most economically developed countries in South America, with a high GDP per capita and the 47th highest quality of life in the world" Reminds of Rio..
FYI Posted January 26, 2010 Report Posted January 26, 2010 Buenos Aires should try & bid for these. The city hosted the 1st edition of the Pan Ams & haven't again ever since. The next edition of the Pan Am's to award seems like it's South American bound. It's time for them to host it again, especially since they ain't gonna be gettin' any Olympics anytime soon, thanks to Rio.
Tatsh Posted January 28, 2010 Report Posted January 28, 2010 About Montevideo, good reasons for organize Panam Games, but i prefer Lima. Peru is not as clear as Uruguay (but we aren't corrupt as african countries) and the economy is growing so in a few years we'll have the economic capacity for realise the PanamGames in 2019. And Buenos Aires, yes, it had the first Panam Games, but Lima has never had it.

And Buenos Aires, yes, it had the first Panam Games, but Lima has never had it. I've been to Montevideo last december and got good time there. But the city has nothing fantastic, the Centenario stadium seems to be never refurbished and it was like make a time travel to past... Montevideo Downtown streets and avenues are very similar to Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo Downtowns in the 80s. At the time I was there Montevideo was home to PanAmerican Beach Games, so they have some recent experience. And Punta de Leste is a fantastic place indeed, very beautiful place, great location, but it's a very small city even counting with the neighbour capital of Department (kind of state) Maldonado.
KRATK Posted January 31, 2010 Report Posted January 31, 2010 It seems we were in Montevideo at the same time, Danny Montevideo is an awesome place... I loved it! But I don't think it suits for a Pan-Am. The Centenario would need an enormous investment and I don't know exactly if they have the infraestructure for other sports. Yeah, Uruguay is one of the most developed countries in LatAm, but it's also the smallest... is like the Luxembourg of South America. Although Lux is one of the richest country in the world, would you give them the Olympics? I don't think so. Santiago, Lima or Bogotá are larger cities that deserved to host finally the PanAm someday... Argentina is still a mess, so I think they are more worried to don't have another default than about being the host of some sports event.

This first picture looks very Greek to me, like something on Santorini or Mykonos.
spectator12 Posted February 5, 2010 Report Posted February 5, 2010 Was econ. crisis in Argentina just early 2000's? I think that Buenos Aires would be great for 2019 bid, especially if competition is weak. I've seen on this forum that 2027 might be next U.S. chance, but I would like to see Dallas 2023.
spectator12 Posted February 5, 2010 Report Posted February 5, 2010 Is Curitiba considered large enough city for events? For like the 2020's?
DannyelBrazil Posted February 5, 2010 Report Posted February 5, 2010 Is Curitiba considered large enough city for events? For like the 2020's? Curitiba is my third choice for any sports event in Brazil, just after Brasilia. Amazing city with almost 2 million inhabitants, great infra-structure, modern transportation system and indeed a wonderful city. If Curitiba bid in the mid-2020, Brazil can get it again.

Argentina still have a huge economic problem and now they also have a political problem. Forget Argentina in the next 15 years at least...
spectator12 Posted February 5, 2010 Report Posted February 5, 2010 wow! 2,000,000 that is HUGE!!!!! That is sad about Argentina though:(
spectator12 Posted February 5, 2010 Report Posted February 5, 2010 What about Port of Spain? It looks like a great city.
spectator12 Posted February 5, 2010 Report Posted February 5, 2010 I just looked up Belo Horizonte, and it looks nice as well.
spectator12 Posted February 7, 2010 Report Posted February 7, 2010 okay, Tampa or Nashville 2019 just putting it out there.
DannyelBrazil Posted February 10, 2010 Report Posted February 10, 2010 I just looked up Belo Horizonte, and it looks nice as well. Never been there, but everybody says it's a great city... Well, the Mineirão stadium (third biggest in Brazil) is placed in an amazing park called Pampulha, just by the side of a beautiful urban lake. I saw you are from Florida. Why not Miami!?!?!?!? I love Florida. It's really a magic place! I told here once that my family had a house there, in Coral Springs, Broward. Amazing place!
spectator12 Posted February 10, 2010 Report Posted February 10, 2010 That's cool about that stadium park. I think Jakarta in Indonesia has like this lush park too with stadiums in it. I like Miami. I got to visit some family friends there one time, but they don't live there anymore:(

spectator12 Posted February 10, 2010 Report Posted February 10, 2010 yep I'm originally from North Florida, and not the JAX part.
spectator12 Posted March 25, 2010 Report Posted March 25, 2010 I still think that Panama City, Panama would be an interesting choice for 2019, if they built more stadiums.
Texas Posted March 27, 2010 Report Posted March 27, 2010 The recent earthquake may take Chile out of the running. And if Bolivia and Venezuela win the 2019 Pan Am Games, what are the chances that the United States won't go? For those Americans who have visited both countries, is there any sort of fear that because you're an American, that you would be arrested, even without breaking any laws? I say this because both leaders of those countries are wholly Anti-American and that they would probably want to show somehow that they are not intimidated by the United States. To me, they seem to be the leaders who would do that.
Victor Mata Posted March 27, 2010 Report Posted March 27, 2010 I wouldn't count Chile out. After the earthquake, they now want to anticipate their turn to host Copa América from 2019 to 2015 (Brazil's turn). Also, Santiago is scheduled to host the South American Games in 2014. So a 2019 bid doesn't seem unrealistic.

To me, they seem to be the leaders who would do that. As Victor said, I won't count Chile out. The change of host for Copa América 2015 is almost ready and the gov. confirmed the South American Games of 2014. Certainly, at this moment I don't see any possibility of someone announcing a bid... but maybe in two years, after the main earthquake problems has been resolved and the "new" National Stadium has been opened, there could a bid. Sure, we are in worst position than three months ago... but who knows. Anyway, it would be sad that an earthquake AGAIN prevented us to host the Pan Ams. About Bolivia and Venezuela... Americans have no problems. Yes, both countries aren't friends of the US Government... but I won't say they are "Anti-American". After all, the culture in both countries has a lot of influence from the US (art, music, TV, etc.) Venezuelan and Bolivian people are really friendly... probably every foreigner would be received with open arms. At least in Bolivia, although there are protests against Chile and monuments against Chile... I have never heard of Chilean tourists being harassed and in fact everyone says how nice have been the people. A lot of American tourists visit La Paz, Titicaca lake and other places... and I assume the same happens with Venezuela.
