Victor Mata Posted August 27, 2012 Report Posted August 27, 2012 Sure. I got that. That's why I said Mexico's position is too open to interpretations and different POVs. Besides, Guadalajara was the sole candidate for 2011. Focusing only on 2019, it's unlikely PASO will choose a city from a country sharing a land border with the previous host. The last time it happened was in 1959, when Cleveland (and then Chicago) was chosen after Mexico City had theirs in 1955.
DannyelBrazil Posted August 27, 2012 Report Posted August 27, 2012 The day Miami put a bid they win by landslide... That's my point. It's the only city in America with strong links with every single country of the hemisphere. *The only city in Americas...

DannyelBrazil Posted August 27, 2012 Report Posted August 27, 2012 ^^Never like Miami. Which strong links Toronto have with Brazil, for example? MIami and Metro-Dade area forms an US city that is home of millions of latinamerican people, home of main international offices of almost all Multilatinas*, and the area around the city is favourite summer vacation spot for thousands of elderly Canadians... Sorry, Miami and its surroudings are the "PanAmericanalism" itself. Toronto does not, neither any other city in the continent. *Multilatinas: Multinational companies from LatinAmerican countries.

I meant Toronto is one of the most multi-cultural cities in the world. Every country will be sort of a homes games for them in 2015. I agree what you said about Miami too.
DannyelBrazil Posted August 27, 2012 Report Posted August 27, 2012 Any big metropolis in the world have multiculturalism, Intoronto... Even Rio can claim it.... But, in the case of PanAms, no single city represents this better than Miami, considered by many the only LatinAmerican capital outside LatinAmerica... (or inside.... LOL You can read some signs in stores and commerce saying "We speak English")

LOL You can read some signs in stores and commerce saying "We speak English") U will see for yourself in 2015! There is almost a street parade/festival for every country in the Americas in Toronto every year. Not sure about Brazil though, maybe one of the few that doesn't. But when Brazil won the WC in 2002 it was huge here.
Victor Mata Posted August 27, 2012 Report Posted August 27, 2012 Toronto has some 40% inhabitants of foreign origin. The same can't be said for any Brazilian city. Even São Paulo would be a strech, as foreign cultures were absorbed into our own.
intoronto Posted August 27, 2012 Report Posted August 27, 2012 "Data released by Statistics Canada as part of the 2006 census indicates that Toronto is more ethnically diverse than Miami, Los Angeles, and New York City. 49.9% of Toronto's population is foreign-born" That was in 2006.
DannyelBrazil Posted August 28, 2012 Report Posted August 28, 2012 Toronto have a big chinese population as well... It would be a perfect appeal for Olympic Games, no doubts. Im talking about PanAms. No city in the world encapsulates better the sense of PanAmericanalism than Miami. Indeed check Miami airport destinations. The only to serve directly almost all countries in this hemisphere
DannyelBrazil Posted August 28, 2012 Report Posted August 28, 2012 PS: I must confess I didn't know about the huge population of "foreign-born" people in Toronto. But still, Miami carries the titles of "Most LatinAmerican city in the planet". Unless Toronto is trying to steal it.

intoronto Posted September 2, 2012 Report Posted September 2, 2012 So we have Argentina, Chile and Colombia all confirmed. Has Lima made any noises?
DannyelBrazil Posted September 3, 2012 Report Posted September 3, 2012 Argentina is kiding around. Don't take them seriously...
cslopes54 Posted September 4, 2012 Report Posted September 4, 2012 how does a Belo Horizonte bid sounds after 2019? good candidate?
intoronto Posted September 4, 2012 Report Posted September 4, 2012 how does a Belo Horizonte bid sounds after 2019? good candidate? For 2023? IDK two straight games in South America? If San Juan bids for 2019 and 2023 they will likely be the hot favourite. However Brazil has a chance because that is the same gap between Winnipeg and Toronto. I can see if Belo wins if it bids against two cities it is clearly better then.
DannyelBrazil Posted September 4, 2012 Report Posted September 4, 2012 I would love some games in Belo Horizonte, the city looks nice and have empty spaces to built venues. Also they already have Mineirao Stadium for World Cup and Mineirinho Arena for Volleyball (a fantastic venue I can tell you guys). But IMO, in Brazil, Brasilia and Curitiba have more chances to host a multisports event before BH. Also, TV Record, owner of PanAms TV rights in Brazil already said they are interested in bring the games back to Sao Paulo again...
DannyelBrazil Posted September 4, 2012 Report Posted September 4, 2012 About Argentina, Colombian govt. is claiming they are now the second biggest economy in South America... Not Argentina. http://blogs.ft.com/beyond-brics/2012/08/31/colombia-v-argentina-gdp-bragging-rights/ Argentine people and media is contesting the numbers presented by Finance Minister of Colombia... In related news... President of Argentina Cristina Kirchner: "I must be the reincarnation of a great Egyptian architect" http://www.clarin.com/politica/Cristina-Debo-reencarnacion-arquitecto-egipcio_0_764323792.html Argentina, they only country in the world, you don't need to create jokes about them... They do it for themselves...
Victor Mata Posted September 4, 2012 Report Posted September 4, 2012 You sound like a broken record. It's either Argentina or São Paulo all the time. Rio 2016 victory should have appeased this thing you have. It clearly wasn't enough...
DannyelBrazil Posted September 5, 2012 Report Posted September 5, 2012 In fact, I support both Expo 2020 and any PanAms bid from Sao Paulo. Also, I'm pretty happy with the construction of Itaquera Stadium, as you can witness in Brazil 2014 thread... If you want to make criticism about my behaviour here (which I suggest you might not - I'm not that interesting), do it with accuracy... I have my reasons to dislike Argentina, and if you like them, I have no objection... PS: I agree with the Argentines and specialist arguments, Colombia is not the second economy of South America yet... Check the link I've posted.

Andyxox Posted September 15, 2012 Report Posted September 15, 2012 Hey, this is my first post. How does one get a municipality interested in hosting a pan-am games or any international sporting event?
intoronto Posted September 15, 2012 Report Posted September 15, 2012 Hey, this is my first post. How does one get a municipality interested in hosting a pan-am games or any international sporting event? Welcome to the forums! What I remember from 2007 it was a group of people interested in bidding for the 2015 Games in Toronto and they bought it to the municipal then provincial and finally the federal government for support.
Nacholympic Posted September 22, 2012 Report Posted September 22, 2012 Now Bogotá, Colombia wants to start the bidding process for 2019 Pan Am Games. (Google translator) Private Secretary to the Mayor, Jorge Rojas, said that "in the coming days will be a meeting with the national government and the Colombian Olympic Committee officials to join forces and study strategies. Bogota will have the great opportunity to show the world the vision of human city we are building. " For his part, the director of the Institute for Recreation and Sport, Elemir Pinto said that by 2019 will have a new airport Bogota, will run the new Integrated Public Transport System with all trunks transmilenio working. It is known that Santiago de Chile is one of the cities near Bogota, began the process to get the seat. http://www.cmi.com.co/?n=89023 SANTIAGO 2019!!!!! Santiago pictures
