Ikarus360
I'm kinda shocked that Santiago lost. Although many say that the bid was getting too cocky and they got defeated by the humblest bid. Ciudad Bolivar was also getting kinda pretentious, and i'm saying this as a Venezuelan. I'm kinda glad we lost, because our stupid chavista government would had probably used the games for political propaganda. We have a lot of issues to solve like the crime rate and the overwhelming corruption before wanting to host these big events) Congratulations to Lima, Peru. A country with a rich culture and ancient home of the Inca Empire (can't wait to see what they do with it on their ceremonies) as well for a vibrant city. I'm sure they'll make a memorable edition. KRATK
Congratulations to th Peruvian people! They had a really good bid and it is not a surprise that they won. I believe Santiago had a much better plan but that is now part of the history. What it is surprising is the result. Santiago and Lima were the favourites according pretty much every report (besides that of ATR that was true at the end)... and Santiago just getting 9 votes is a shame, the same than La Punta. The Chilean government was confident to get a lot of votes but at the end, it seems they only got was Mexico, the US and Canada, a total failure. Ciudad Bolívar was also disappointing. It seems Peru got most of the Caribbean votes and probably Colombia and Brazil. I hope Chile bids for 2023, but please, not with this pathethic government still using the miners for pretty much everything.
Ikarus360
^^ If Bachelet goes to elections next year, she would undoubtedly won very easily. Piñera is pretty much unpopular and I think a left wing government will return soon to Chile.

Victor Mata
Hoping Lima changes their logo quickly in time for the 2015 handover. 2019 will be an interesting games: the first new nation to be awarded the games since 2003 and just after two triple-hosting countries (Canada and Mexico) and one double-host (Brazil). Santiago was the best choice, IMO, but Peru is a place to see.

Nacholympic
Hi everyone! First, I have to say that as an Olympic Fan, the Santiago failure is, probably, the hardest failure I ever felt. Having obtained just 9 votos (really 8, Chile voted for himself, of course) is a total shame. But analyzing, may be those the main reason for this epic fail: - PERU EXPERIENCE IN BIDDING Santiago was the first time that bidded for the games. Even the first time that bidded some some international event. For years and years seport in Chile has been totally forgotten by politiicians and that's why Chilean sport does not qualify in any competition worlwride. Peru bid was the second in a row, after lossing to Toronto for 2015 Games. Peru learnt the issue, previous lobby was used. Some important aspect that Peru had hosted other International event. Nevertheless, their capacity for good organization on them is still under judgment. - CHILEAN HISTORY IN INERNATIONAL EVENTS May National Olympic Committees took in serious consideration the true bad history in Chile with International events. NOCs leaders are rhe same since many years and they have whitnessed how Chile resigned two previous Pan Am organizations (for 1975 and 1987), one Pacific Games for 1999 and one South Amerian Games for 2002. Despite the bid assured totally the oposite this time, the credibility in Chile is totally lost. It's one of the point that we have to work hardly for next bidding process of anything. Besides former Chilean Sports leaders had a black history in human relations with our neighbors. On the readio I jus listened that when Chile asked for a edition for South American games, Argentine leaders just said "while those persons are on the headm we will never negociate wirh Chile"... Chile is totally alone in this race and probably we never realized before. - CHILEAN POLITIC RELATIONS IN AMERICA When we look the politic map, we see that most of America's goverments are left winged. Chile is one f the few countries that currently is right winged. With a right goverment with a extremely low population backing (it never reaches 40% of population backing) credibility, again, go into a play. - COMPACT PLAN IN LIMA Lima Master Plan was too compact, with all venues in a 7 km area. Santiago conyemplated two extra host cities: Valparaiso and Viña del Mar. - PERU CULTURE AND SOCIAL ISSUES Peru culture carries with a millenial history. Too atractive for visitors. Peruvian Gastronomy is one of the best in the world. Chile, instead, carries a extremely bad reputation in Latin America: arrogants, xenophobics (specially with eruvians), cunning and no friendly. This is, probably, one of the most strong aspect that relations with other countries are going into a deep crissis. This one of the aspects that we, as Chileans, need tochange, but noobe is concerned about it and none tells us what is our real image in front of foreign eyes. - RIDICULOUS FINAL PRESENTATION. One of the aspect that NOCs took advantage was the final presentation of the bidding cities. While Lima made a moving Olympic style final presentation. Chile turned to the minners history again. This is probably desicition of the goverment head, that is still celebrating what they consider as herioc and epic great deed. But the reality is everybody is fed up of such history, sepcially in Chile when we have seen how they have took horrible advantage of this dramatic history. Miners don't have any relation with an Olympic or Pan American plan, so everybody asked "What is the link, then?" Probably for most of the foregign eyes, the boring, no energetic and extremely self confident final presentation was the turning point for a descition that, was supossed to be tight. Goverment leaders obssesed with a topic that happened 3 years ago, the absence of the Santiago mayor, were political mistakes hard to explain, but easy to understand why their population baking never reaches 40%. Santiago 2019 was a dream that for moments, we thought we had in our hands. And we will never forget how it slid away so stupidly. Venezuela is now complaining about vote purchase and hoe the money factor was the main isuue to win. But Pan Am Games are growing in complexity and money issue probabl is going to be a dramatic factor for next biddig process. Chile has many to learn, probably much more than we thought. And being realistic, the next chances for hile to become the hostu city is for 2027. In 2023 North America is showing their interest. We lost a complete generation, just for our past sins and our weak human relation with our neighbors. CONGRATULATIONS LIMA, AND THANKS TO ALL OF YOU THAT SERIOUS TRUSTED IN SANTIAGO PROJECT. MAY BE NEXT TIME!
yoshi
Well, I see you've got the South America games next year, & the Copa America in 2015, two great chances to boost credibility.
intoronto
Looking at 2023 we are unlikely to get bids from Canada or Mexico. USA is the logical choice but I don't think they will bid. San Juan has made noise, but if they don't then its back to SA for 2023. Santiago does have the benefit of bidding again like Lima if it does bid for 2023. Nacholympic
Well, I see you've got the South America games next year, & the Copa America in 2015, two great chances to boost credibility. yeah, that's the beggining of a long race that Peru starded 10 years ago. It really hurts.. really, really hurts, but Lima plan is excelent. But really thinking... in 2023: Mexico and Canada are not bidding. USA is really interested? I don't know, anyway, we lost the greater chance we had to improve in everything-----

DannyelBrazil
Congratulations to Lima and the very nice people of Peru. Always had great time with them!!! Imagine that in 10 to 15 years you will be the first developed country in South America and it will be very special to celebrate it with some PanAms Games. In the end, it'll be better to wait a little, perhaps.

Sir Rols
Hmmmmm. It depends of course who else puts their hands up, but I wouldn't have thought that 2023 would be a great time for Chile to bid for a PanAms straight after another Andean host. Still, after some of their past host-annointed-then-pulling-out history (is that hostus interruptus?) it might be good to show their commitment to be after them for the long haul. Tatsh
Panam games 2023 in south america now is quite difficult, because the last panam games in central america/caribbean were held in 2003, and there are four panam games in north and south america (Rio 2007, Guadalajara 2011, Toronto 2015 and now Lima 2019), so the argument about games in central america y more strong. But on the other hand, with south american games 2014 and america coup 2015, Chile we can show that they can organize good events, so Santiago 2023 is posible. Victor Mata
2015 would be the Central American/Caribbean turn and no bids came from those regions. Aside from Puerto Rico, nobody made noise. If by 2023 no Central American/Caribbean city put forward a bid and the most reliable offer comes from South America, PASO probably wouldn't skip it for rotation sake. Toronto got it just after Guadalajara.

FYI
Central America is not a continent, merely a *region* within North America like the Caribbean. Therefore Mexico IS part of North America. IDK why some people, particularly people from the U.S. & Canada, have the misconception that North America is "only" the U.S. & Canada, which isn't the case. intoronto
Some of the venues: http://translate.googleusercontent.com/translate_c?depth=1&hl=en&prev=/search%3Fq%3DLima%2B2019%2Bjuegos%2Bpanamericanos%2Bestadio%26sa%3DX%26es_sm%3D93%26espv%3D210%26biw%3D1366%26bih%3D630&rurl=translate.google.ca&sl=es&u=http://peru21.pe/deportes/fotos-estas-seran-sedes-lima-panamericanos-2019-2153084/1&usg=ALkJrhiSt2J-JcjjJDgKsaBSfsZ-8NKUZQ#foto-gal Interesting a stadium is being expanded to 50,000 for athletics, which I think it slightly excessive.
