I'm not sure about this logo, since it's not a creation itself... You got something already done and putted 2016 above... And without knowing the concept of logo (even about R making a stylized Sugar Loaf montain) you invented a meaning about sports when the logo clearly reminds old Rio de Janeiro's casinos colours.

Well, it's up to judging comission. But, we had many creative/original proposals here and I'm not sure about this logo joining the competition of "create yourself a logo for Rio 2016".

RiO 2016 logo submission

rio2016original.th.gif

The logo for Rio 2016 has been designed to show-off some of the city's most world-renowned facets.

The whole logo depicts a smiling face of a carnival-goer wearing a feathered headdress.

Within this design, the headband becomes a depiction of Rio's golden coastline, whilst the feathers in the headdress themselves become Rio's green and varied landscape.

There are 16 'feathers' in the design, reflecting the year the Olympics themselves will be held.

This graphic is offset by "RiO 2016" in a deep blue festive font and the all-important Olympic rings.

danny, I have to admit that I prefer the Sochi logo of your two logos...

Thank you! I glad that I got something wintered for the logo (hard for me living in the warm beaches of Brazil and not being an expert in Winter Games).

Thx

The reason that my logo is like this is, is that for the last competition (The 2022 Commonwealth Games Comp) I put in alot of time and effort into my bid. I spent two days, updating information, campaigning, sending messages to gain support. I submitted a bid book, i gave information about mascots, logos, slogans, venues, theme songs, i tried to give as much information as possible and constantly update and canvas for votes, just like in real life. Doing all this and all the time it took, i only got 2 votes (one which was myself) Then to top it all off, even before the voting closed people where trying to start up this new logo competition, which to me was a bit unfair as the shortlist candidates where still in that comp and like me, using up time on that.

I have taken part in many competitions in the 3 years i have been a premium paying member of this site, and even though i am very busy and have little time, i try to enter all the comps that are taking place. I do not have editing and professional image applications, and although given links to free sites, i have difficulty using them, so i try and use other images but put them into context of what i am doing.

I understand that people have came up with logos from scratch and they look awesome and i would love to produce the same types of logos.

My designs and bids may not be original, i accept that but, if i am going to be nit picked at when all i want to do is participate in all the competitions, then something has definately went wrong on this forum.

For the first time since joining over 3 years ago i am going to withdraw from a gamesbids competition

I wish everyone involved the best of luck

rob,

I think I would prefer if eyes were added, since the eyes are important to show expression...

Haha, I did actually try it with eyes when I was making it, but it just ended up looking like the Germany 2006 logo. Way too cheesy for my tastes!

@ scotguy,

You gave an fair answer .. Thanks for that ..

Besides as you said about different comp at gamesbids; years ago I was excited about a " World Cup Football 2018 fantasy bid comp " . I worked 2 weeks for it. Dispite not having a lot of hours in my bussy working life. Afterwards I withdrew because the comp lacked some disipline rules. Now I think that it was my fault, because I expected to much of it. Afterwards I came back, but this time not for winning something. Now I want to enjoy and put some experience and talent in what I'm doing. Loving the draw, loving to design logo's .. that's beautiful actually.

After that competion I tried to set up my own gamesbids forum in Turkish. I worked for months and years to reach Turkish fans in what we're doing here. Never succeeded in that. The only little successes came on creating comps at well-known Turkish forums like I putted a competion to creat a logo for the EURO 2016 Football chamionships were Turkey is candidate of.

I realise now that it is difficult to create something like gamesbids. I was just upset, but now I grow up. And hope that I will be also a premium member like you. That will be one of mine priorities to say .. " This is our forum " I decided to be a part of it.

Hoping that I'm fair as you. I'm glad we have you here and your talent is really good. I like it. Thank you folx, guys .. thank you GB.

These things are a lot of work - in research and design and writing- it's why I don't enter more. There's been a few I've put in a big effort for but it's not something I have the time, or inclination for, every time. I commend Scotguy for entering as many as he has - it's wide participation that make these work.

I can understand disappointment when hard work doesn't get rewarded. But I guess it's like IOC elections - rotation and sentiment can beat a technically better bid. And of course a lot of voting in these comps follow sentiment and friendships. Keep up the campaigning Scotty - it's actually that part I like the best in the comps.

I always find the graphics part the hardest - I only entered this time because I had a bit of time to play around (and the one I submitted came out totally different from my concept - mainly by accident when I couldn't figure out how to get Photoshop to do what I wanted it to).

Puppy's done some sterling work organising and administering the past few comps, and he's been scrupulously fair in them (much appreciated Pups!). As he said at the start of this, he won't weigh technical execution too heavily and is more than willing to accept "borrowings" from the net (as I did with clip art for mine).

I think the secret of success of GB is that we are from all over the world - we are on one hand different on the other hand we have a common love: The Olympic Games - that makes the forum something really special...

We do not have many trolls (except for some very few) - we mourn when suddenly somebody is pulled out of our middle (e.g. LA84 or Eruedan) - we just share something special!

I agree Pups is doing a marvellous job - he has to read the bids and he is producing always really good reports (and Mo of course too)

Scott,

No problems.

I only asked it because the propostion of the contest was create a logo by yourself, and I remember to have read that we should not use internet already done material.

But If this is allowed, I wish good luck with your logo. And I like this cassino logo, BTW. I wish go there one day... You know, carioca-pride things...

Submission for the 2014 games in Sochi. All the colors of the Russian flag are represented.

Title: Композиции зимы

TRACKS OF WINTER

A non-traditional white Russian star is the focal point and guide for the surrounding elements.

The bands of color represent the athlete's tracks and the diverse spectrum and beauty of winter sport.

The overall image is influenced by faceted ice, a snowflake, and the expanding strength of the Olympic and human spirit.

PALETTE

The colors represent the coastal waters of the Russian Riviera and the snowcapped Caucasus Range, as well as the magic of winter.
