Durban Sandshark
Updating Ireland's Vancouver athletes: Pat Shannon will compete in the skeleton, Kirsty McGarrity in women's alpine slalom, Shane O'Conner in the men's version, and PJ Barron will participate in the men's 15 cross country skiing. All join bobsledders Claire Bergin and Aofie Hoey on the Irish Winter Olympic Team (Leona Byrne is the alternate breakwoman). But rower Paul Griffin hoped to join them as a cross country skier, becoming the third Irish Olympian to compete in both winter and summer, and is not happy about the snub. 2010 Irish Olympic Team announced South Africa will send two male athletes to Vancouver: alpine skier Peter Scott, coached by former South African Olympic skier Alex Heath, and cross country skiier Oliver Kraas. Algeria will send only athlete, though it is not known yet it's going to be Christelle Laura Doulbi. Mexico returns by sending also one athlete, and he's a veteran: 51-year old skier Hubertus von Hohenlohe, who competed in 1984, 1988, 1992, and 1994, a pop singer known as Andy Himalaya, and is a member of Austrian royalty. Did qualify by Olympic standards for Torino but was turned down by Mexico's Olympic Committee because no other Mexican Olympian did qualify. When asked why he continues to compete, he says he wants to keep the tradition of the exotic Winter Olympians alive. Shame that Luxembourg is not sending anybody to Vancouver. A nation with an Olympic tradition needs to continue that.

In a statement on Wednesday, the International Olympic Committee said the two sides had failed to reach an agreement on the format of a unified march. KRATK
Chile will send just three athletes to Vancouver 2010. I'm extremly disappointed... it's one of the smallest delegation to any kind of Games, only surpassing the 2 athletes in Antwerp 1920, and like the delegations to Nagano 1998, Lillehammer 1994 and Oslo 1952. It's a third of the delegation to Torino! Damn... and it seems the Games won't be broadcasted
Rei
San Marino will send 1 skier.

Sir Rols
40 for the Australian team, twenty men and twenty women. Our equal largest Winter Team with Torino's.
Durban Sandshark
Thats a real shame that Chile wont be broadcasting the games. I reported on the media posts that the IOC sold its Chilean free-to-air TV rights to TVN and Canal 13 for 2010 and 2012 a month ago. If the deal between the two networks since fell through, then it's much too bad. There is ESPN Deportes and Terra to get access to Vancouver. KRATK
I know TVN and Canal 13 has the rights... but they seem like nothing is happening. Today, Canal 13 announced they will broadcast everynight a summary of the WOG at 2.00 am! WTF! and TVN haven't said anything and at the time of the OC they will show the movie "Zodiac" like someone cares about it. At least, ESPN will do their work (the Opening Ceremony will be broadcasted live on ESPN+ ) and also will Terra.cl... but it's a shame the largest TV companies haven't done anything... LuigiVercotti
I was disappointed about Luxembourg's non appearance as I worked with their team in Sydney. But to be honest they don't have a strong Winter Olympic heritage aside from Marc Giradelli who was an import anyway.

mattperiolat
Stupid question: were Kenya and Thailand supposed to come but either didn't qualify or couldn't send a team? I ask because I swear I saw their flags projected on the crowd at BC Place last night, but they were not in the PON.
