PYRROS2004
The logo of Pescara 2009: ---- Yes, Athens hosted the Mediterranean Games in 1991. This was the logo: And the mascot was a dolphin called 'Irini" (=peace), you can see it at this coin: -------------- The Games were supposed to be a rehearsal for the 1996 Olympic Games, but finally they weren't! One of the classic moments when was the IOC President that time, Samaranch was entering in the stadiums, all the audience were booing him. I remember that many events were held in OAKA, but basketball events were held in Thessaloniki (because of Aris BC that time), and the rowing events were held at Ioannina. Good experience, and the favorite part was the end of the Opening Ceremony, people created a sea, there were 18 ships representing the participating countries, add the music of Zorbas, and you have one of the greatest momments ever. They also done a water torch relay, a woman was emerged from the sea infront of the temple of Poseidon at Sounio, and she was holding an amphora with water. Then they had an amphora relay till the Olympic Stadium, and they also constructed something like a fountain, and they threw the water inside it. For good or for bad, they didn't continue doing it!
