Where would it take place in Rio?

A street track race, maybe?

I don't like it.. This is just a waste of money for the city of Rio... Now shady businessman will use the olympics bring a lot of non-lucrative events to the city... Of course that the politicians will get their part also...

IRL sucks, No one in brazil and very few people in the USA watch it... IIRC the ESPN doesn't show the races lives... except the 500 miles in Indianapolis...

So this excuse about showing the city to the world is just a lie... NOBODY watches it...

I'm a big motor sports fan so I watch that **** (lol) and I know what I'm talking about...

IRL NEVER was profitable... NEVER. It was financed by Tony George who dumped there hundreds of millions using IMS money just to make IRL competitive... But few months ago his sisters 'fired' him from the IMS' Control. So IRL will have to survive on its own and a lot of people doubt IRL will succeed...

So basically Rio population will pay US$20 millions just to have the RIGHT to host a race with the false excuse of publicity...

MrCatra is saying IRL is not profitable and he believes it will be bad for the taxpayers from Rio. Personally I'm not sure about it yet... F1 is very profitable for SP and I tend to think IRL could, at least, brake even for Rio. However if what MrCatra writes is mostly true, it could be dangerous for the Rio's public safes...

Dannyel,

You can either prove him wrong or simply say you believe the contrary, but please, stop playing the the Wold vs. Rio card.

I told that about he's mad against Rio because there are three cities trying to bring Indy: Rio, Salvador e Ribeirao Preto...

But his point is valid, I tend to agree since IRL is a little decadent and can not be compared with Formula 1...

I still believe that US$ 20 million to Rio's Grand Prix is not a big money to host Indy.

BTW, how Indy announces a GP in Brazil without a official choice??? This is so weird.

In a recent interview, Mayor Eduardo Paes told that the IRL GP would be too expensive, so he was not interested to bring it. But recently, there have been some accounts that IRL has made a cheaper offer and the nogotiations have resumed. I think it's still too early for a decision to be made right now. Probably, it has not been confirmed yet.

It would be nice for Rio having a street circuit in Flamengo Park.. But I can imagine the traffic jams caused by this, since Aterro do Flamengo is the last part of a main corridor to get Downtown Rio.

I think that it´s quite possible, if they get enough from sponsors and tv broadcasting. F-Indy is not so technically demanding as FIA is to stage street circuits. I remember that F-Indy even staged some races in Airports in the U.S.A. For me that was weird.

Some cariocas like playing the victims using the "you're jealous of my cariocaness" line and the "persecution" as an excuse to say things about other people. A mate from Rio got very angry when I disagreed on some points of Rio's alleged protagonism in everything about Brazil. Well, they chose to be the front door, of course people will knock.

The world is not against Rio. A few people maybe, but it's wrong to point at their origin as the source of their opinions. Rio de Janeiro wanted to be the center of attention. Congratulations on the victory, now they have to deal with it. People are curious, excited, aprehensive, happy, doubtful... And Rio has to answer their questions and present itself to the world (Brazil included) since it's now on the long awaited under-the-spotlight position. The demands are very high for Rio and be sure you'll get every compliment and complaint you deserve. The fierce battles on the slums woudn't reach the global headlines if the result in Copenhagen were different, would they?

Besides, Rio won't be really bashed by critics until 2014. Vancouver, South Africa, London and Sochi still have much bitching to face before it's our time, so cariocas, don't feel persecuted yet.

About your "mate", there are silly people everywhere, indeed, some from Rio de Janeiro (Do you know Cauê?)

Rio is the iconic city of Brazil. Sao Paulo is the financial-money center and Brasilia the political one... Period. I'm not silly to say it otherwise.

No doubts Rio is the center of spotlight now, and it'll be for the next 7 years... And with this, we will listen a lot of bullshit about Rio AND BRAZIL.

I agree with you about int'l media commenting on Rio crime wave. If Rio lost the games, the demand for this news would be smaller. No doubts too.

BTW, everything that happens in Rio is bigger for the media than Sao Paulo, for example, since Rio is the iconic city of Brazil. Period.

We will face a lot of criticism 'til 2007 and we (Brazil) are not used to this new scale of criticism. It'll be hard to get use to it, since now we're in the hurricane's eye.

LOL? salvador was competing? I swear to you that I didn't know...

but even if I did, don't judge me using you as the the parameter, seriously.

I'm not from Bahia. I'm from Recife and I lived in 5 different states when I was a kid/teenager.

I really don't feel an uncontrollable lovefor a piece of land in the middle of the via lactea.

Thats not me.
