DannyelBrazil
Well, after the bid, I would like to see opinion on design. How much a render or a video can play a major role in the choice? Should a great video really change the vote? Or the bid logo show a strong or weak bid? DannyelBrazil
I start with a question. The Chicago venues video was disappointing compared with Madrid and Rio ones?
stir.ts
It a component of the overall. Tokyo, Madrid and Chicago's branding and graphic identity were all far superior to Rio, and look what happened??? Rio's logo looked like a jaundiced-rotting-bloodless human heart thrown across the floor onto it's side, it was absolutely hideous. And regarding ancillary materials, did RIO even develop any??? It was a mess.

BTW, Rio created branding if for the venues as you can see in Master Plan video... In Unity video, there are signs with branding all over Rio (in second plan). And some events held in Rio was all decorated with Rio branding... Rio suffers of non-media-recognition, maybe that's the reason you didn't see it. I can say Chicago's logo was good, Tokyo's one too... Rio's show many things of Rio in just one logo - which is cool. But sorry, Never Madrid logo could be better than the others... A fat-hand with an M and the lettering is simply horrible...

I think Tokyo had the worst logo (good idea, poorly executed) and I like Madrid's hand but they made a very unfortunate choice of typeface. Rio and Chicago had an average logo. The Chicago's and Madrid's bid books were really well designed and deeply thought in terms of the message. Tokyo was too simple, which I personally like, but it tends not to be very appealing to the average eye. Rio's bid book made use of the landscape jargons, it is appealing, but very shallow as a message. There's not much branding to analize, since an applicant city doesn't require much of it... Based on the outcome, I think the design of the logo and materials can only be influential on the results if they are REALLY bad.

aluz
I think the design components have almost no influence on the votes. Maybe the renders with the venue plan, but I think not even that. It is more abut having a sound plan and being able to explain the message around the bid. The design would be accessories of those two objectives. I really think that the bid team is 90% of the decision. They are the ones who have to create the plan. based on all selling points around it, and to do the lobbying and the presentations to explain the message around it. The graphics around it are just tools.
cube
when you hear the statement of Rio then you know the presentation has nearly no influence on the voting the cities have to win her votes before DAY X

Rob2012
when you hear the statement of Rio then you know the presentation has nearly no influence on the votingthe cities have to win her votes before DAY X I don't think you can generalise quite so much. This, as the vote shows, was never a tight race. Rio would have won whatever their presentation was like. For this race your statement is, perhaps, true. That really wasn't, however, the case for the 2012 vote. The presentations were believed to have had a big influence on the outcome of that very tight race. DannyelBrazil
The presentations for 2016 could have changed second option voting...
Raphael
The presentations for 2016 could have changed second option voting... Maybe, Dannyel. If IOC members were as astonished as we all were after Chicagos defeat, then the Meireles video's sentimental appeal and President Lula speach may have worked. jim jones
Rio's "look" was second only to Chicago's in my opinion. I would agree that Chicago had a superior logo in general but really the 6 pointed star is an Extension of their long running civic ID. Perhaps it is my knowing that logo but how does a 5 pointed star place with Islamic voters ? Rio's was what I would expect from Rio De Janiero and it summed up the topography which is a drawing aspect of the city . Logo's and Graphics are subjective of course. Tokyo I like if liked thou it seems a stayed pat image. Madrid well it seems simple enough but what message does it put out ? human Touch ? Renderings well a Rio Flyover is going to have great impact . Rio will be a Tv producers dream really. I am not sure how you would excite Tv audiences with Madrid , Chicago and Tokyo seeing as the imagines are so familiar . City Skylines we have seen at many an olympics. Rio will have a magic that I can see being similar to what we will see in Vancouver for the winter games in FEB. Jim jones
