NY20??
And regarding the new "platform" where you can take a close picture of the cauldron... you will have to queue an average 45 minutes !!! Well at least everyone can get that close to it. Beats it being all the atop a stadium or inside an Olympic Park that you need tickets to enter. Kenadian
I was on the new platform on the first day it opened. First off, thank you, VANOC. Second, the line was long but everyone in it was having fun chatting and taking pics and sharing stories. So I think it is worth it.
OneTimeOnly
The four pillars represents the four host nation and the big cauldron in the middle represent Canada. This was posted by Markalltree The cauldron looks amazing at night. Icicles. I thought it was supposed to be a camp fire? You know, like a Native American camp fire? NY20??
I thought it was supposed to be a camp fire? You know, like a Native American camp fire? Well officially, it's not suppose to be anything. Meaning, Vanoc hasn't realesed any statement about the design's meaning. It can be anything you want it to be. I want it to be a five burner chicken rotisserie with shades of Superman's fortress of solitude Oh, and it has to be kept fenced off in case exceedingly tall people try to cook their marshmallows over the flames. baron-pierreIV
OK, I have another spin for only 3 spokes of the Cauldron working during the OC. (I already like the story that it was also to honor the fallen Nodar.) What about Vancouver won over PC by 3 votes in 2003? That's also a good spin on it!! OneTimeOnly
(I already like the story that it was also to honor the fallen Nodar.) Hey Baron, I'm the one who came up with that way of looking at it, thanks for the compliment! apparently the bottom half of the fence has been replaced with plexi-glass hosea24hours - http://twitpic.com/14cqkj The chain link fence is just super super TACKY. The should have just replaced ALL of the chain link with Plexi-Glass. That was certainly poor planning and poor decision making on the part of VANOC. mr.x
^ there was a lot of apathy in the city in the week leading up to the Games, they never thought there would be 50,000 people going to see the flame everyday. And there was the issue of vandals/protesters having their way with the cauldron.
