EVENTS AUSTRALIA CAN WIN IN ASIAN GAMES

Recommended Posts

Here is a list of the sports, specific events and the athletes that Australia has a good chance to win gold in should Australia be included in the Asian Games as a fully-fledged medal winning participating country.

This is based on events held at this year's Doha 2006 Summer Asian Games and also Australian athletes currently still performing in their respective sports. (Example, Cathy Freeman is not considered as she has already retired)

Dear forumites, please do not hesitate and feel free to add on anything that I have left out.   :D In this way we can get a good and accurate estimate of how many golds Australia would be able to win should it participate in the Asian Games. Please also do include estimates for silver and bronze medals.

COMMENTATOR, are you Australian?

___

Just a few points:

Petria Thomas is retired, however Jessica Schipper has become our new Madame Butterfly winning the 100m butterfly and should have won the 200m butterfly after Jedjczak made an illegal touch at the Montreal world championships last year.

Not sure the Men's soccer team would win gold.

Gymnastics - Monette Russo finished 3rd in the all-around to two Americans in the recent world championships, so following your theory she should win gold.

Alicia Molik after a great late 2004 and early 2005 where her ranking reached No.8 and bronze in Athens, developed Vestibular Neurosis and hasnt been able to play for 6 months now, and probably will not compete in 2006 at all. Lleyton Hewitt would be a better option for gold.

Australia would likely pick up more gold in Athletics - Asia isn't particularly strong in this sport - apart from a few Chinese and Japanese.

Cycling? - Australia took 6 gold home from Athens.

Beach Volleyball?

Shooting?

Archery?

Rowing, Kayak/Canoeing?

Would all these competitors really want to add another competition to their programmes?

Probably not, but this post is nevertheless interesting to discuss about....
